It's usually better to go the Showmanship day so you're able to see all the birds otherwise the folks who bring them start packing up on Monday and you're lible to miss some of them. Speaking from past experience anyways.

Margie you do know that if you ever want Mr. Cal back you just need to holler. And he comes with family now if you want also. I love the 3 of them but I also know how it feels to get rid of one of your kids and sometimes the need and want to get them back is strong. So just let me know

I didn't realize that - so all the birds in competition will already be there on Sunday then? Hmmm ...

This is Joe's ad dated the 3rd, popped up on a search on "chicken"

Says he is disabled and eats through a feeding tube so no way he's eating the chickens you give him.  Also says he lives "almost to Yoder" - which can mean a lot of things.

There's something off about this.  Do you get the feeling he's lying, or that he's unwell?  Maybe both?  The tone of his ad makes me uncomfortable.  I would not recommend visiting him alone.

Hey I live "almost to Yoder", what exactly are you implying? ;)

OK Pozees, you put forth the argument I needed. I'm going on Sunday the 20th. Anyone want to meet me there or drive up with me from the Springs. I can fit 5, and will provide transpo.

WARNING....I'm an early riser and will probably be going in time to get there when it opens......or at least before 10 am.

LOL just mean that almost to Yoder could mean literally that, and then again it might not. Yoder is sparsely populated but has a fair number of square miles, as I recall, so you can be almost to Yoder for a long time :) It's been years since I was that far East though, maybe it's changed. Since you are almost to Yoder, though, is this person someone you've heard about locally by any chance?

I know what you mean, our mailing address is Yoder but we live ten miles from actual blink-and-you'll-miss-it Yoder. We only moved out east about five months ago, so don't really know anyone local aside from a few neighbors

Yeah, I know a couple of days ago she said either day would be good, and I'm torn - I would like to see at least some judging, and have no problem getting there right at 9, I'm like gardendufus, up very early, but then it might also be nice to have time to look at all the birds before the judging begins. Shylee, if you're reading, can you tell us when most exhibitors arrive?

Looking for opinoins/ideas please.

I have 4 SLW's in my flock of 33 chickens. A couple of months ago I introduced 2 15 wk old Blue Copper Marens Cockerals They were quite large and I think older than 15 weeks just by the way they were feathered out so well. They seemed to intergrate into the flock quite well. They keep their distance from the main rooster, a little silkie, and generally give the white leghorns a wide berth too. They started mating with the hens several weeks ago. Today I noticed one of the SLW's beating the fool out of one of the marens roosters. The SLW's have been laying for 2-3 months now. The SLW's were in the flock before the marens were. Luckily the roosters don't have their ...humm lost the word for it....."claws" yet. Later one of the EE's were chasing after another hen, of the same age, raised from day 2-3 together, both had their hackle feathers up. I'm thinking this new behavior is just pecking order, or due to the fact that it's so cold out and they've been cooped up too much, mind you of their own accord, we open the coop into the run every day and I would let them out of the run, but they have been damaging the alfalfa bales (can't lose the horse hay and it's expensive too) and they don't care for the snow anyway. Ideas anyone?

With that many chickens, there will always be some sort of politics going on.  It just is.

ditto. i wouldnt worry about a little bit of fighting if theyre not injured more than some scratched on their combs and its not constant. it seems the combs are the first target in chicken spats, at least around here anyway.
