Colorado

Okey dokey, just emailed Tony and told him we want a total of 15 Narragansett poults - 4 for Wendell, 6 for Mayah, and 5 for Chesterchooks. Let me know if I have the numbers right. I asked him to let me know what shipping would be and told him we would get a check to him in the meantime. He is not in a hurry, as long as we have it to him by the time the chicks are ready to ship he's happy, so I figure we should try to get it to him in early March.

Have not hear back from Mr. Urch yet on whether he still has the bantam Wheaton Ameraucanas, will let you know if I do, maggiemo :)

Tony has Narragansetts and will ship with my Speckled Sussex, so if those who wanted them from Duane Urch would like to order from Tony I will let him know - I think we were up to a total of 15 Narragansetts and 2 Bourbon Reds from Urch, at my last count anyway. Narragansetts are the only breed of turkey Tony has on his list. I an expecting to get 25 Speckled Sussex in March or April, so if you want the turkeys from Tony I will let him know to ship my SS in April along with 15 (?) turkeys.
I thought one of these two places had the Speckled Sussex..... But when I did not see them on Duane Urch order form was wondering where I had seen them. Judi I would be very interested in buying a SS rooster from you if you happen to have more than one in your order of 25!?! Unfortunately I have nowhere to put chicks until late May.

I will most likely be laid off in January but at least I had some warning to get my resume out. I had a phone interview on Friday for the VA hospital in Denver... I know it is far away but it is a job and I have a friend fanning my resume out to where she's at. Unemployment would be enough to keep things going but know the longer I go without a job, the harder it is to find one. Sometimes all I can do is just pray extra hard and give all of my issues over to the great Dude in the Sky.

Minchi, did they at least give you some warning before hand? What type of job are you looking for? I'd offer to help with the resume but I suck at them. PM me if there is something that I can do. I've been living about 10 hours a week after work at the coffee house just applying for jobs, updating my crappily done resume but at least trying and writing cover letters. I had to get out of the house to do it because between the dogs and my hobbies, sometimes I get too easily distracted. I've done a few job fairs but mostly they just suck. This last time, I seen the same people from the month before. It was almost like a family reunion and lots of comraderie in that bittersweet sort of way. :)

Nice variety, we had the same thought, only problem is deciding which you like best

We may be rehoming a few of our brahmas and red stars, about three months old if you're interested.

I think for now we'd like to keep it simple with day old chicks all the same age. But thank you so much for the offer!

Chesterhook,
I may be able to offer a home for your Red Stars, I lost 2 of my chicks over the summer I'd allotted for 6 all together. We are adding Turkeys in the spring, but we are adding a second coop and a large run, LMK if you decide to rehome.

I am sure I will have more than one LOL I will let you know when they are old enough to figure out which are roos and we can go from there. It probably won't be until late summer that I start deciding which roos to keep and grow out, if you can wait that long.

I'm pretty sure I will get more chicks later in spring (May/June), so will let you know.

Oh bummer, Mayah! Bob was laid off all of 2011, and finally got hired in January of this year. He had no warning and spent the first few months trying to get over the shock. He took this job in Trinidad, they started him at the same rate he'd been laid off at, he commutes about 150 miles round trip every day, and says the same as you, it is a job. He's at that age where it's really tough to get hired, his job is physically demanding (heavy equipment mechanic) and despite the fact he's never had a work-related injury, potential employers view him as more of a risk than a younger mechanic with far less (sometimes no) experience.

At any rate, I'm no resume expert, but I can write a little, and anything I can do to help anyone needing a refreshed resume, I'm more than happy to help, even if you just want to send it to me for proofreading. Having looked at quite a few resumes over the last several years, I can tell you employers want to know what skills you have, in the case of office jobs what software you have experience with, sometimes what customer service, accounting, or cashiering experience - you would be amazed at the number of people who can't make change - and in the case of health care, special skills such as cardiac monitoring, surgical prep, neonatal intensive care, etc. I had a friend many years ago who moved from NY to CA to take a job in a neonatal intensive care unit, because they paid him an outrageous amount of money based on his previous experience in a similar unit coupled with two years in the coronary care unit. For those in the trades, list equipment you have used or repaired, classes you've taken, any special licensing like A/C, etc.

I'm sure you all know that, just a reminder list.

I feel for all those who have been laid off and are having a rough time. We have been blessed to have never been out of work since Beth and I got married over 27 years ago. Had a scare this past August, but hopefully all will be well.

Lots of Snow here at Windy Ridge this morning, and its still falling. Chickens haven't gone out of the coop, though they can if they want to. The dogs are loving it.
