Colorado

Working at home - the non-paid kind (laundry, cooking, etc.) - it's been pretty gloomy here all day, little sun, no warmth, sun has been trying to peek out between the clouds, but it isn't having much success. I've had about enough of winter, it could warm up now, at least for a couple of days so I can get a few outside projects done. The last couple of days the humidity has been a little higher so the cold seems colder. Oh well, it's okay, I need to work on inside stuff too :) Want to get more pages of the site built, today is a good day for it.

The girls think it feels colder too, although it hasn't stopped them from ranging around the house leaving their tracks in the tiny bit of snow we got overnight. They just aren't quite as cheerful as they were Saturday, when it was a couple of degrees colder but much drier. Did you get snow?

So we have the Portlandia marathon on, and the two main characters are trying to buy cell phone service, and the salesman tells them there's a nominal fee if they want to keep their numbers. One of the characters says, I thought that was a free service, and the salesman says, well it is free after you pay for it.
We got a little yesterday, but not enough really to measure. Yesterday evening we watched the whole next season of Downton Abby...Heather got a copy of them from a British website..... We on;y have one more episode to watch. And everybody else has to wait ...LOL Bwah ha ha ha ha!

Its not too bad outside today, but as of yet we have no eggs. We had hot wings last night, so the flock got all the scraps this morning. They LOVE hotwings!

OH today is 25 degrees! I went out and cleaned my coop and let my girls out. They are soo happy to run and stretch. Yesterday they were locked in and not happy with me. Today I found 5 eggs which was a surprise. I have 3 layers, and 4 girls who should be starting soon. SO I guess 2 have started :)

how do you make a weather vane? I desperately want a grape vine with wine grapes for my homestead. Not here in this tiny house, but when we move it's on my list of things I someday want to have. :) How handy are you! Love it!

Oh! Just had fried up eggs and left over prime rib for breakfast/brunch and had 2 double yolk eggs! The big one I posted before and another biggie we got today. So cool.

Looks very Yummy!

Well, I've never made one before. For this one I have epoxied two 1X12 boards together, and drawn the rooster likeness on the boards. When it is cured, I will cut it out with my scroll saw, flatten the bottom for mounting and do some contouring of the body. The vane itself will be made from leftover 2 X 8, in the shape of a long arrow with broad fletching. in the center I will drill a vertical hole and insert either a set of bushings or some tubing. The vane will mount on a steel rod that goes through the hole. The rooster will be screwed to the arrow. Eventually it will be mounted to the roof of the hen house. or at least that's the plan right now.

I'm looking to get 3 RIR chicks and 3 BPR chicks in early summer. Right now, we're learning all we can and in the process of building our coop. We're in Old CO city.

I think I saw your Craigslist ad! I was surfing around to check on how many hatchers were active already. I did see an add for a local hatchery that specializes in RIRs. I will see if I can find their link...

Found it, hardwickhatchery.com. I don't know much about them other than what's on their site. Anyone else here purchased from them?

Hi CO folks. I know there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this thread. I have a sick hen and need some advice. The link to the thread is here. If anyone has had a hen like this please give me some advice.

Thank you!
