Those chicks are so cute. Where did you get them from?
I have serious bantam envy.
They're from my local feed store. I forgot to ask where she ordered mine from.

Ya they do. I had to pick up each individually and dip their beaks in the water. After that I couldn't get them away from it. Poor girls where thirsty from their trip.
The tiny ones are sebrights.

Hi everyone, I am relatively new to BYC and live on the western slope, just outside Grand Junction city limits. I think I have a buff babe thats getting broodyish.
Hopefully I could hook up with someone in the area with some fertile eggs for her I could purchase. I dont really much care at the moment what kind, I am not set up for some of the things I want to do with chickens yet. I have BOs, EEs, RIRs, and SLWs and a loner Andelusian that I really dont want anymore of-her feathers are too not cold proof, she suffers when it gets too cold. (she gets to be in the dog crate in the house when the temps get below the low 20s). My favorites are the EEs, and the BOs are growing on me.

At some point I would like another rooster, but it has to be non human aggressive. The EE roo decided he was gonna spur me and that afternoon he was cooling his drumsticks in my fridge-the reason why I dont have my own fertile eggs. I now have experiance making back aprons for barebacked ladies so will be well equipped to make ones for when I can get another roo.
Forgive me, I dont have Internet access (yet) so it might be a few hours b4 I can answer.
THANKS!
Welcome! There was someone on here last week from the western slope. I agree you might find some fertile eggs on CL. Even an ad for fresh eggs, contact them to see if they also run a rooster with their hens, you never know.......

I'm a little freaked out having to leave them there with the brooding lamp on. I don't want to cook them......

What you will find is that when you go to check on them, if they are too cold they will be all piled up together right under the light. If they are too warm they will be spread at the perimeter or completely outside of the heat, or as far as they can get from it. Brooders work best when there is a warm spot and a cool spot, so they can get away from the heat if they are too warm. Do you have a thermometer down on the bottom of the brooder so you can check on how warm it is? Usually after the first couple of days you can tell without it whether they are comfortable and adjust the light accordingly (raise or lower it).
