Many things can be substituted in a pinch - small stones, aquarium/terrarium gravel, you can even use sand, although it will then have to be dumped outside each time you change the water - the shininess of the marbles does attract them to drink, but the drowning risk is the main reason I use marbles, especially for bantams but even large fowl, the first few days are small and less coordinated.  Once they have a few days of growth (LF) I stop using them, and for bantams I play it by ear, they may have marbles a week or two.  They make cleaning and changing the water a pain, but it's peace of mind I'm after

Ditto all of this. I had one chick drown and I don't forget them anymore. Which reminds me, I have more babies coming this week, I need to wash my marbles.

Same, looks like work will be a late start today. I'm working in woodland park building a church.. I hope they didn't get more snow then the springs.

When I left home at 5:30 we only had about 2 inches, but the freeway was very slick. It took me about 40 min to get to work.

Got 6 Dom eggs and 3 EE eggs yesterday. The ladies are back in business! Now for a free afternoon or two and some decent working weather, and I can get the breeders into their new pens.

There is a LG still air brand new for sale on the pueblo Craigslist if any one is looking for a bator. Lady is asking 35, I'm sure you could get it for 30.

There is a LG still air brand new for sale on the pueblo Craigslist if any one is looking for a bator. Lady is asking 35, I'm sure you could get it for 30.
