Thanks for the reply! Im not in a rush myself to rid of the roo's as they are so sweet but I do worry a bit for the lonely pullet. Poor gal! I havent noticed any problems with the roosters yet but I have a feeling its only a matter of time before the two roosters and one hen becomes a problem. My sister has a coop with 3 rode island red hens that are about a year old now, do you think if I were to relocate one of my silkie roosters to her coop he would be outcast?
i wouldn't try to add just one silkie into a pre existing flock of large fowl. They tend to be bullied and they have issues with head injuries due to pecking.
Their skulls are alot softer than other breeds.
There is a group on here just for silkies as well, you might find someone that can take him in there. I just got 4 silkie chicks myself :) I'm hoping for 2 hens at least. I can't have roosters.

Now to find a more fuel efficient vehicle. The drive will be a little long but isn't that why audio books were created? I must have put in about 30 resumes and I went to the job expo and went to job fairs. I have been actively looking for a job since last November.

Oh how exciting on your new chicks! I guess I have my work cut out for me trying to get rid of at least one roo and finding two started silkie pullets! Hopefully more members will continue to read my post and have some suggestions and solutions. Thanks for the advice. I would ideally like 4-5 silkie hens but this is proving to be a challenge. Its looking like I will be trying a few more chicks and hoping for a better turn out on hens, I just hate having to give up the roosters and no one seems anxious for a rooster. I have them listed on Craigslist and I keep getting replies of people asking me if I have any pullets available lol.

Hope this turns out better than the nonsense recently. Can you still get the care you guys need inspite of the "facility" issues?

Have you tried contacting the local 4H? They may know of folks who are looking for Silkies. Just a thought.

I'm working on getting someone into my spare room to be here with my son and am moving his care to another home health agency. Obamacare has caused significant cuts in healthcare for the disabled so suspect you'll start hearing more and more stories shortly on the decimation that is occurring State wide. His authorized care has been cut by over 80%, which is why I had a plan A through D. I was hoping for something closer to home because I worry about being too far away and he still gets infusions at Memorial but I asked help from God and this has been the only job to pop up after so many resumes. So I suspect it means I am suppose to take this job and allow others in my son's life to help him. I put in so many applications... was willing to take anything although I was hoping for something a little more physically demanding as a job where I can lose weight is always preferable to one where I gain it. =)

I do have some things I have to get settled like getting an automatic chicken door, setting up an automatic feeder, etc. but we'll be ok. Sometimes just knowing I don't walk alone is comfort enough for me to find the doors to walk through.

i think i'm only going to be able to keep 2 of my 4 silkies regardless of them being pullets or roos. Mine are a little over 2 wks old right now, but i'll let you know what they end up being and if i have to re home a couple i'll let you know. I'd rather give them away to someone that will care for them then make a little money on craigslist.

Mayah, congratulations!!! Personal experience for us has been great with Bob's Neon and my Caliber, although the Neon gets better mileage - he's getting at least 32 mpg and has 200k+ miles on it. His old Stratus got 36 mpg.

Heather's Ford Festiva, though old, still gets around 40mpg and is a good reliable car. No frills. Just a to b
