Wow, that is fantastic!!! Looking forward to pictures......

Well, I got the heat bulbs yesterday. today I tried them out. Though both types emit heat, neither of these low wattage bulb put off enough to raise the temperature inside the brooders to above 60F. Back to the regular infared bulbs until it warms up.

What a great day! I can't wait for pictures!!

I am pretty sure that is a Marans trait.
I bet ColoradoGal would know...does Pozees have Marans??? Anyone?
I am so gosh darned excited! Any more action?

My marans have feathers on their legs. I think it is a desired marans trait in the US. My mixes tend to have lightly feathered legs.

Yes. The roosters were black copper Marans and EE. She did say she had a few blue copper Marans hens but mostly black.

I did get a couple of grey chicks from mine that are EE/marans crosses. Mostly my black marans and cuckoo marans have black/white feathering reminiscent of dominiques.

Anyone with experience with sick chicks, please help... If its just issues with genetics or development I understand not much can be done but I have a third dying chick...

Is it possible that they got too cold during shipment? It's still shipment related stress but anytime I've ever lost a chick due to cold (not being in the midst of the huddle), there was little I could do after they started going downhill. Any updates?

So Fritzle found a home. She came and immediately fell in love with him. He just cuddled into her arms and fell asleep.

I'm so very happy as we all know how hard it is to find homes for roosters. I made sure the rehome fee was high enough. She was just so ecstatic. I'm going to miss him hanging out with me at night, roosting close to me and jumping into my lap at the first scary sound.

But there will be other roosters that may also need a home someday. Now I know that there are people willing to take a house rooster. Just make sure you get them use to diapers and being handled first. It made all the difference in the world that he was so easily handled and comfortable in my arms.

I'm really glad to hear Fritzle found a good home!
