how is the snow treating everyone? i went to denver for my knitting night and to swap kids with the hubby. it ended up taking him2 hours to get home, and i'm spending the night at my parents house because they closed the highway.

Wow. I didn't think it got that bad last night. I'm going to have to go look outside now and see if we got much ..

So I have a chick with spraddle leg. I am assuming that it could not get good footing because of those darn egg crates. Never again will I use those things.

The chick from last night still hasn't hatched. I rewet the shell/membrane and misted the incubator. I'll let it take as long as it needs. I'm going into day 23 but refuse to help more than what I am doing. She can breathe, the membrane is moist again and now it's up to the chick.

edit: did a little reading and it was recommended in another forum to wrap the egg in a wet paper towel and then place it back in the incubator.

We didn't get much, but it was blowing nicely. I had to do some redneck engineering on the Durango while it was snowing, but I got it done and the repair is working nicely. The team Hanover boys played last night were from Stratton, and had to spend the night in Colorado Springs because of the road closures.

I'm looking forward to the week of nicer temperatures that are forecast. I hope to have a lot done on the new shed.

We now have (I think) 14 eggs collected, with a few more days left before we start incubating!

Ya, looking forward to breaking out the tractor for the 3rd time in what seems like as many days. As soon as it warms up to 14 degrees I'll clear a path for the puppy to get around. It's awfully cute watching him bounce around the driveway, though. He looks like a dolphin following a boat around

W - I had a Durango when I lived in Breck and it did so poorly in the snow it ended up sliding off a pass, but I was able to climb out the sunroof. The Dodge trucks (and Chevy's) are way better equipped to handle this weather. Come to think of it, I should just get a sled and the dog can pull me into town.

I bet the Stratton boys were excited...the school district, not so much as I'm sure they are a poorer district and just don't have the money for such expenditures.

Yay on the eggs.

I have one pip and one zip this morning!

What are you incubating? Very egg-citing. How are the babies from your last hatch doing?

I had a chick with weak legs and curled toes, really thought the poor thing was a goner, but I let it stay on terry washcloths, not paper towels, and it is now strong and straight. I think the bumps on the wash cloth mechanically helped to straighten the toes when the little claws would grab for grip. I am guessing here, but something worked.

RIR and some mixes. The RIR are hatching right now but I swear I keep seeing a mixed egg rock but its not enough for me to be sure.

Isn't that frustrating!? Every time I stare at an egg to try and see if it is rocking, I swear my eyes are just messing with me or I start thinking macular degeneration is setting in. LOL!

I have a chick that doesn't spread its outer toes all the way.. They are not curled they just don't spread it. Is this common?

Also, this morning I went to check on my chicks they were fine. I went to check again 20 minutes later and my Marans chick was laying on its back? I picked it up and it was fine.. Has any one had a chick that did this?
