I think the Parker feed store is supposed to get sussex in a week or two.

Y'all are pretty quiet tonight. I spent the day burning slash piles and am waiting for the rest of the family to get home to see if I am making dinner or not. I will have a salad if it is just me eating! I am having fun watching the new chickies grow and play.

Had a busy day here. I worked on taxes while Bob worked on some one-person tasks on the shed, then I went out and primed all the roof/eave facia while he cut the hole for the cupola and got the frame in. He is struggling to get it level, thought it was until we came inside and looked at it from in here, and it looks like one side is slightly high, so he'll probably adjust it a little more before he starts screwing it in place. Decided we had better prime the facia before putting on the drip edge. We think we might get one half the roof done tomorrow

Also moved the 4 week old pullets into a larger pen, they are about fully feathered, so I didn't give them a heat lamp. Checked on them several times, they are doing fine.

Eggs in the hatcher aren't doing anything, which is of some concern, today is day 21, they should be pipping. Had some trouble getting the humidity up but a wet cloth in a container finally pushed it up to 55%, and after reading what Chick posted about ventilation I had removed the plug from the vent hole, which may have been why humidity dropped, but looks fine now. Oh well, they will either hatch or they won't I guess, I've done what I can. Shipped eggs. Always iffy.

splay leg update: The one with the unabsorbed yolk with splay leg didn't make it. It's always a 50/50 chance when that happens. The other one I am still cautiously optimistic. The little chick is still very small but I just checked it's little crop and its completely full. I took the bandaid brace off last night and it's walking normally. Other than the size, you'd never know it had leg issues the first couple days of its life.

Beaker (cross beak chick) is still growing. I believe it is a hen. I think out of this second to last hatch, out of 8, only 2 so far are showing rooster characteristics.

Wow, only 25% males would be excellent!
