Colorado

well, i was on a mission for chicks today, wanting to add speckled sussex and jersey giants to my flock... leaving room for my son to pick a few too.
the goal was too add color to my flock of BO and 1 delaware, I have 2 silkies and 2 golden seabrights too
SCORE on the jersey giants.

.. i actually thought i was gonna give up on them. I had several breeds in mind as i went to the swap, then elizabeth feed, and ended up containing myself to only 6. my son picked 2 white cochins, 2 cuckoo marans and i got my 2 black jerseys. I dont want to overpopulate the coop, so I will hold off on the sussex this year.... Ofcourse, you all get chatting about chicks and chicken math sets in

i hope i can continue to contain myself!! I was good at the store..i picked out 8, but decided against those last 2!!
The little peepers made it safely on their journey back to bailey and are settling into their new home nicely

Hello all,

As of Monday I'll be setting eggs!! I have my Brinsea Mini Advance going and IT is doing very well....me on the other hand, well, I just need to learn to read directions on my thermometer/hygrometer!

Just had to share this: I have my 3 little girls for almost 2 weeks now. It was soooooo beautiful and warm out today (60+) I had to take my favorite chick out for just a few minutes. I took Maxine, my Barred Rock pullet, out into the backyard which was just bright and warm with the sun. Needless to say, she LOVED it. I walked around a little bit and Maxine was following me everywhere. Wherever I walked, she followed me. I was talking to her continuously, and thought, no it must be my imagination......so I tested it out. I stopped talking to her and walked back to the stoop without calling her. When she looked up from scratching and picking at the ground, she out-stretched her neck like she was looking for me! She cautiously started to walk in my direction and before I knew it she jumped up and flew about 5 feet to get back to where I was sitting......I didn't think she had enough feathers to do any actual flying yet, but she fooled me!

We were only out for about 10 minutes as I didn't want her to get a chill. It was amazing how she followed me around the yard. Don't know that I would trust the other two just yet. I won't take all of them out until I have my kids here (20 and 21) just in case someone isn't cooperative in wanting to come back inside!

Whoever said chickens are dumb is very much mistaken!!
