The first FF bucket can take a while to get going. As long as you leave a little back when starting your next batch it shouldn't take as long.

Here's the link for my setup. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/644300/fermenting-feed-for-meat-birds/1500#post_9727751
Ignore the collanders I no longer use them. Now all I do is pour the 5 gallon bucket of FF in the top tote to drain. I use the back slosh to start a new bucket of FF. I've never used ACV.
Actually I was wondering about your feeder setup, though I like your easy-drain setup for the ff. How many days does each batch sit immersed before you drain it and use it for feed?

Had a Fox outside last night trying to eat a neighborhood cat! looks like their up, out, and hungry. I put my game cam looking at the coop to watch for them and examine their attempts to crack my coop. Hopefully I built a fox proof coop, only time will tell. We'll see if they get an interest in the chickens.
Not to worry, I got something special waiting for them if they get to aggressive.

Anyone know of anything I could us to deter them? The chickens are in lockdown in the coop at night.

I have a motion sensor light on my coop area. So far it has detered the predators. I have a lot more than a few foxes around.

Oh lol. Actually its pretty simple. In my grow out pen its a plastic gutter with feet. My hubby made it for me (uh, my chickies). Then in the big girl (and boys) pen its a small swimming pool and a long tote (like the ones that slide under your bed). It allows them to scratch but tall enough that they don't actually toss any outside on the ground. I tried to use the gutter with the big girls honestly it just takes way too much time for me to fill it up for all of them and then a lot ends up getting spilled in the process since they try eating from the scoop.

Each bucket sits for 4-5 days. So in the mornings I empty the drain tote into my feeding bucket. Then I grab a bucket that's been cooking for 4 days and put it in the drain tote for the next day. And with that empty bucket I then fill it with feed, back slosh & water. Day 1 feed expands, day 2 feed is farting (lol sorry couldnt resist), day 3 still farting but its now starting to settle and day 4 smells like beer/ferment.

Hey guys, I have three 9 month old Cochin Roos I am sick of dealing with. Anyone want one? I'll be posting them on CL, but thought I'd start here.
