Bah-hum-bug = we only have a foot. Hopefully we will get more as well! And I guess we will be seeing those single digit temps= a true bah-hum-bug!

I should NEVER type/say we ARE going to do anything that requires dry weather. In the seven years we've been here, we have pleaded with Mother Nature for some precipitation, in March when we need it to get the trees going and start the garden, and the last three years or more it's been dry dry dry and much warmer than normal.

We woke up today to a couple of inches of snow and it has continued to fall - forecast I watched last night said we would not see anything until at least noon and probably wouldn't get anything at all, it was all going to be North and East El Paso County and beyond.

Oh well. I guess it turns out all I had to do is begin a project that depended on the weather we've had the last few years to change it.

P-funk I read your comment to Bob, who replied, "Never again!" LOL While secretly I think he actually has enjoyed many aspects of this project, right this minute he swears he would never do another one. I suspect it won't be long, though, before we have begun planning for another building. First we would like to close in the barn, as we have wanted to do since we bought the place.

Wanted to share a couple of pictures of the shed, with its pretty new coat of paint



Taken from the North side with the house in the background to the left. The South side is identical, door in center and window to the left of the door.



Inside, showing doubled hurricane ties on each roof joist. The roof shingles are approved by Miami-Dade for hurricane resistance. Can you tell we worry about the wind here? LOL

Today we built the frame for the first of 4 4x6 pens that will go in each corner, leaving 4' walkway across the center from door to door, and 4' walkway across the middle as well. The pens are framed with 2x4s and the walls will be pegboard, allowing for maximum air circulation. They will be dividable into 2 4x3 each for breeding specific pairs/trios/quads. We are pretty sure this design will work, so tomorrow we will go get the materials for the other three and hopefully at least finish the frames for them and get the frames painted. I should be able to move chicks out of the crawl space by next weekend

Still have to put up and paint trim and finish the cupola, and run electricity to it, but at least it's a building now instead of a will-be-a-shed-some-day

LOL one of Bob's nightmares - he's going to make lightweight tops for the pens. He envisions them hinged to the walls and made of PVC and netting - we shall see what they actually turn out to be

I just want to take a minute and thank all of you that had high hopes of working on projects this week end. I do appreciate the moisture that you have brought to the area. The car washing and other inspired plans has really made the sky open up for maisture to fall. I just have one complaint. The wind. The snow would stick around much longer if you could turn the wind off. Lol

I'll have to add my voice to the cacophony of people who had outdoor plans requiring dry weather... *SIGH* Now I'm just hoping the weather warms up enough for me to MOVE this round of snow so that I can get started on the coop next weekend.... My thinking is it's Easter weekend, many people will have family/easter plans.... not enough to facilitate a large scale dumping again!

I am going to be in Denver next weekend and wondering if there is a good feed store in that area?

Not sure what you're looking for and my experience with feed stores is very limited but there's a Murdochs in Littleton off of Santa Fe that has been very helpful for me with my chicks. If you call ahead they can tell you what chicks they currently have (it's always changing so I would call the day of).
