Yep. My plans of continuing to build the coop have been interrupted as well; I have limited time to work on it anyway (Sat - Tues) ...arrrgh!

The good news is this is day 18 of incubation for my 3 remaining eggs; I candled at day 16 and I still had live peeps, so they are now in lock down and I'll be on "pip watch" starting Tuesday!!

I just want to take a minute and thank all of you that had high hopes of working on projects this week end. I do appreciate the moisture that you have brought to the area. The car washing and other inspired plans has really made the sky open up for maisture to fall. I just have one complaint. The wind. The snow would stick around much longer if you could turn the wind off. Lol

Boy if only we had that power!!! LOL

I cant beleive it , I know we need more snow, but does it have to snow on my days off? I will never get my coop built. My chicks are a couple weeks old all ready. In a pinch I could put them in my little greenhouse, but they would mess up my soil to much nitrogen. They are awful cute. My Marans are looking good and the meaties at two weeks old have doubled in size. It is so funny you can feel their weight difference when you hold them. Pozees love your Coop! You're doing a fabulous job! Can't wait to see it when your finished the chickens will be so happy

Wanted to share a couple of pictures of the shed, with its pretty new coat of paint



Taken from the North side with the house in the background to the left. The South side is identical, door in center and window to the left of the door.



Inside, showing doubled hurricane ties on each roof joist. The roof shingles are approved by Miami-Dade for hurricane resistance. Can you tell we worry about the wind here? LOL

Today we built the frame for the first of 4 4x6 pens that will go in each corner, leaving 4' walkway across the center from door to door, and 4' walkway across the middle as well. The pens are framed with 2x4s and the walls will be pegboard, allowing for maximum air circulation. They will be dividable into 2 4x3 each for breeding specific pairs/trios/quads. We are pretty sure this design will work, so tomorrow we will go get the materials for the other three and hopefully at least finish the frames for them and get the frames painted. I should be able to move chicks out of the crawl space by next weekend

Still have to put up and paint trim and finish the cupola, and run electricity to it, but at least it's a building now instead of a will-be-a-shed-some-day

I'm laughing with you... The 'coop' and run are positioned so I can see them from the house - except today. The wind is brutal. If you have the 'day off' be thankful. When you live on a ranch there are no weekends, no sick days, no holidays, no vacation days, no "My trucks' battery is frozen" days, no snow days, etc... I know,

Maybe that makes you feel a little better, too. My suggestion: sit on the couch and watch movies until Monday. P

Hey everyone, one of the mottled Houdan chicks I recieved is developing a significant crossbeak. I don't think it's right to sell her but I would rather avoid culling her if possible. If anyone in the Springs area would like her for free, PM me. She is one week old.

I tend to think of the meaties as little tanks. They just kinda plow their way through to the feeders and make the egg-layer chicks seem frail and unthrifty. (Even when the eggies are doing laps around the meaties. LOL!)

There were a number of guineas at the last DEnver urban Homesteading swap in denver but all were adult . Also guineas at the Rocky mtn pheasant waterfowl swap in brighton
