Colorado

Would a culling and processing class at the chicken swaps be too barbaric? Haha
That I think is a great idea. I think it would have to be a portioned off section where only those interested can see.

Eggs went into lock down on Thursday. Last night 3 pipped. My son got to see one hatch this morning & then another hatched this afternoon. Now 2 pipped. All the other eggs no difference yet. Crossing fingers for more.

I really hate my work schedule. I don't have weekends off so its impossible to go to swaps and such. **Sigh**
I want $1.00 chicks!

On Freecycle someone in Castle Rock has two 5 week old Pekin ducks that need a home. I'm afraid to go look

Hi everyone! W Smith mentioned in the Jefferson county law changing thread (which passed YAY!!) that we should come here and join the Colorado group, so here I am.

My name is Danica, and I live in Littleton (unincorporated Jeffco) and we got our first chicks about 5 weeks ago. They're so cute, but growing fast. We have four chicks, and we're having a blast. Chicken keeping is kind of addictive, isn't it.

Welcome Danica! I would say it is way more than kind of addictive :)

I agree with all who would support a mobile processor, it has been discussed before (not here) with regard to other livestock processing, and it seems like someone is doing it, although I don't think here in CO but I could be mistaken. There would be licensing and such involved of course, to ensure the processor isn't poisoning the consumer. I think if someone did just poultry the operation could be smaller, so more manageable, and could require that the customer provide the refrigeration and water which would eliminate some of the weight and power requirements. To price it low enough to attract customers and still make money would be the trick I guess.

Well, here is one for ABE!!!! It is 7 degrees outside my house at the moment. If there ever was a good argument for "Coloradoized" breeds/birds , this is it....

Welcome Danica! You have no idea of the craziness you have just stepped into. Yeah!

LOL. Luckily, it only got down to about 25 in the coop. We got a total of about 3 inches of snow, and it DIDNT blow away! that means it will melt into the dry cement we can dirt.

As I will be out of town from friday morning until Saturday evening, I will close up the incubator tonight, hoping for a good hatch starting Sunday or Monday.

Welcome Danica! Glas you were successfull in Jefferson County!
