I found my d'uccle this morning. I have been on evenings for the last 2 days and when I come home at night, she (Millie), was no place to be found. Finally, this morning, she pops her head out. She was hiding in the garage. So I pick her up and she rewards me for my excitement by pooping allll over me. Yup. It's definitely a good day. =)

No good deed shall go unpunished, huh? :) Glad she's back.

I have an appt. at Simla tomorrow morning first thing. Taking my meatys to freezer camp. Will post how it goes tomorrow after I return. They said to bring my coolers so all is loaded in the car along with my kennel for the ride up. They will be doing 15 Cornish x and if I can get in in two weeks, my red broilers . Today I spoiled them with meal worms and free ranging in the grass. I hope it will be worth it!

Hatch Update: Hard to believe that it has been 3 weeks since the massacre. The eggs from that night are hatching now. So far, the silkie eggs are doing the best although one of the darker green eggs has hatched. I believe I have 7 in there now with 4 more that have pipped.

I did everything wrong on this hatch. I 'forgot' to stop the automatic turning and then realized this morning that I left the separators in there too. To make all of that even worse, I didn't even put them on lockdown until yesterday so this is a dry hatch. So I either completely couldn't count my days due to grieve or something is wrong with my temperature and they are hatching early.

Thankfully, for whatever reason, even when I completely screw up everything with my hatches, the eggs I set tend to do well. I think I've had every opps there is from loss of heat to forgetting to turn the turner on. This time, I can add leaving it in the autoturn tray and not bringing the humidity up for lockdown. sigh.

I will leave them in the incubator until tomorrow night and take pictures. This time, the silkie babies are not going out to the broody.

Mayah, I was thinking of you today while at work. And was just going to ask you about your hatch update. I'm so happy that you were able to get a handful to hatch. Still keeping my fingers crossed for more little ones.
I use electronet fence all the time. I guess money is all relative to what someone thinks is expensive. I think it is very reasonable. 160 feet of fencing is just over $100. It take just a few minutes to set up and works 100% of the time. I think the charger was $150 but I can link any number of electric fencing to the one charger (solar). I have two and a half acres on one charger and several different configurations of fence for different needs.
I use it for pigs, dogs, birds. It is so easy
With the new coop going in I've been researching this too and haven't seen anything that cheap. I know plenty about cattle fence chargers considering after multiple escape cows & getting knocked up by neighbor bulls we finally invested in one for the cows. I'm wondering if I can use this one for the chicken electric fence. Anyone know? Charger is for 80 acres but we are only using one line around 35 acres so we have plenty more for the charger to handle. I call this charger Instant Roast Beef. They don't come near it now. Hmm, would that mean I would have instant rotisiere chicken?

If any one on the way to ChickenFest is passing thru Franktown there are two 7 week old roo's I can't keep. They were raised by a broody momma and still in a sectioned off broody pen in the coop. That being said, they are rather hard to catch. They must be roo's 'cause they already have bright red combs??? Momma just started laying again and is back with her buddies in the larger section of the coop. I can call the lady I got the eggs from and she can tell me the exact breeds, or come and take them to be slaughtered. I would prefer they had a good home. Thanks in advance

Man I wish roosters got along better together. I really do like them a lot more then the hens... sometimes. lol

Oh good I'm so glad. Do you think she may have been brooding? As soon as you said she pooped all over you I was thinking broody exploding poos. Those are some nasty stinking poos.

So my little girl has strep and this morning was her second dose of antibiotics. She's still fairly tired so we won't be coming. The end of chickenfest is toward the end of her mandatory 24 hour quarantine phase so thought I'd just sneak her in. But she's barely mobile again today so can't do that to her in good conscious. I really wanted to bring some of the colloncas but I suppose there is next month at the chicken swap. Although the chicken swap won't be as egg-citing as chickenfest.
