Thanks everyone for the welcome! I was reading some of the other posts, looks like most gals went on strike last month, mine just started laying again late last week, I kept telling them they were going to end up like Thanksgiving (our turkey) - the pep talk must have worked!

Small world P-Funk, my husband grew up in Franktown and we are in Big R at least once a month in Elizabeth for the military discount (we have five horses as well as the chickens so we get our feed there). Good luck with your 'newbie' dropping by - should be an interesting meeting. :)

Hurray, Wendi!

Welcome new members!

My 3 boys went to their new home tonight, great home for them, I am happy.

Both my Egyptian Fayoumis are laying now, so hopefully soon I will have chicks. I have 4 Fayoumi x Speckled Sussex chicks in the brooder right now, one is small and loud and I worry there may be something wrong, but it is eating and drinking and holding its own, so maybe it will be fine. They are brown and adorable, will be interesting to see how they grow up. More going into the hatcher over the next few days. We had a power issue that took over a week to resolve, including two complete outages, and although the incubator was covered in a blanket I fear it caused a hatch failure for a few days' worth of chicks, possibly more, I will know in the next few days. I also have Silkie eggs in the incubator due to hatch starting in the next few days, really hope they made it through the power issue.

My juvenile Silkies are beginning to mature, and I will be giving them nesting boxes this weekend. The oldest are 6 months old - for Silkies that can mean anything, but I'll give them a place just in case. The cockerels are a splash and a black split to lavender, the pullets are a splash and a light partridge I got from Shylee, and a porcelain and a white from Catdance. So, really, not much of a match in colors. I am thinking of putting the black cockerel with the two adult black hens. He has already tried to breed with the pullets, and I would like to have some nice black chicks, and some splits I might be able to breed back to the sire hoping for lavender. I have no idea what the two black adult hens are carrying, of course, so it will be a guessing game for a while, but hey, Silkie chicks are cute no matter what color they are :)

The juvenile RIR are looking nice. Little way to go before I know what I will keep. I have 4 pullets and 3 cockerels, and would like to keep only 1 cockerel, although I'll probably keep a backup, they were too hard/expensive to get - I incubated a lot of eggs to get these 7 birds from great lines, the last thing I want to do is cull myself into a corner.

I have 2 SLW hatched from Greathorse's eggs, and I believe they are a pair, one has stouter legs than the other. They are still not fully feathered but getting there. They are 8 1/2 weeks old. Beautiful chicks so far, very active, cheerful, not a breed I thought I wanted, but after seeing the breeding stock they came from, I will be extremely happy if they are a pair worthy of breeding, holy mackerel.

I have 3 Colloncas from Coloradogal, the red one has a leg issue I have not figured out yet - I first thought Marek's but there has been no change in weeks. When they are out in the run she (I think it's a pullet) moves around, albeit with effort, but in the pen she mostly just lies around, eating and drinking, some days she gets up on the roost, some days not. I've started adding vitamins to their water, have given them yogurt three times this week, fresh vegetables, and even though they are young I'm going to give them oyster shell this weekend. Another I thought was a pullet crowed for the first time Monday, and the third I thought was a cockerel but now all bets are off, I have no idea, and not enough knowledge of the breed.

Last I have 3 Cream Legbars hatched out of 23 eggs lost in the mail, a cockerel and 2 pullets - I know, right? - but one of the pullets is WAY tinier than the other two chicks, like no more than half their size. The difference was apparent a couple of weeks ago, they are now just over 5 weeks of age, and I hope to get a better idea of color soon, although I suspect I will have to wait through at least one juvenile molt to know what they will look like as adults. I may be getting some more eggs from a different breeder in the near future, and will hope for a hatch. Shipped eggs are tough, shipped Cream Legbars ... wow. Really a challenge.

I figure I need more coops and runs LOL. I like to keep breeds separate, and with the Silkies, some separation of color, so I have my work cut out for me. If I can get my hands on a wooden crate or something like it, I want to put another coop up out where I have a large run around some trees, cover it with netting, and move all the RIR out there for a while until they are more mature. The color on these birds is really nice, and their type is looking pretty promising. We're kind of on austerity right now, so I need to use minimal investment strategies for the moment.

Anyway, it's been a while since I posted an update, and wanted to catch it all up. Happy chickening! :)

On another note if any one near pueblo or springs needs to rehome their chickens, ducks or geese please let me or LeciaBee know. We are always looking to add more birds to our flock. Pozees has supplied us with 14 younger pullets and 3 roosters, i will never complain about her birds. Everyone of them were and are as healthy as can be and are beautiful specimens in their breeds.

I completely agree with this! Pozees chickens have been a wonderful addition to our little flock and I adore each one! But we are always willing to take in just about any livestock that need to find a GOOD home!

Thanks rj23 and LeciaBee :) I am thrilled the boys are in such a wonderful home. Thanks for sending the pic of the Fayoumi, I showed Bob, he is very happy as well.
