Was her name Rebecca? If so I bought some birds from her two years ago. They all were fine.

I bought three pullets from her two years ago also. They were healthy, the EE had been pecked pretty badly but her feathers came back and she was one of my best layers until a fox killed her.

That pup is adorable!! Love his sweater! Came across this "new" way to poach/scramble eggs, going to try this for Sunday breakfast!

The puppy we just got is happy there's no more icy snow out there though. He's so clumsy right now he had a hard time walking on it. And he doesn't have enough fur or body fat to keep him warm. Just running out to go potty and he was shivering for 10 min. I had to knit him a little sweater. lol

Well, I am disappointed to share I will not be getting the Porcelain D'Uccle pair after all. They were part of a trade someone was doing, who didn't really want them but wanted the rest of the birds in the trade, so was happy when I inquired about some; the person on the other end of the exchange has had a change of heart.

Oh well. Kind of gives me an excuse to hang onto a pair of Lavender Orpingtons a little longer and see if I can make room to keep them I hatched them on 1/20/14, they seem to be a pair, and they are Sooooo pretty, I was hating the idea of parting with them, but could not justify keeping them. Now maybe I can

I hope you get to keep your Lavender Orpington pair! They are a great dual purpose breed too. Seems everything happens for a reason....... I do think the D'Uccles are cute! One of the feed stores either Elizabeth or Kiowa will have D'Uccles in this spring.

I am thinning my breeding stock as I want to add some more breeds to my laying flock, hate that I can't keep them all!

Yes, Rebecca. I got a very good response from her. The chicken in question had gotten away from us and was loose in their yard. Rebecca's husband caught her and in the process the hen was upside down for a bit and probably got some fluid in her lungs. She offered to take the bird back or exchange or whatever I wanted to do to make it right. She said they've never had sick chickens, which I wholeheartedly believe - what an amazing facility! also, the other three I got from her are fine. I wouldn't hesitate to get more chickens from her.

Yes and yes LOL - for now I'll hang onto them and let them grow, and meanwhile work on a small coop and run for a pair of Cochins Mayah is going to loan back to me - black cock, mottled hen that turned out beautiful. I'll set them up and hatch some eggs from them this summer. Large Fowl. I needed another project or two LOL.

I modified the incubator and now have 28 eggs set for a hatch date of march 7th. I will candle next weekend and see how many are fertile. My newest americauna laid her first egg on Friday. It is green. Now I have dark brown, brown, cream, blue, green and white. A nice mixed batch. Most of the eggs I am hatching are going to be mixed (mutts) leghorn roo and RIR, BR, SS, BO, or white leghorn. Also a couple more silkie eggs are in there also. they should be pure bred though. I guess they could be a cross of silky also, as he as been trying to mate with most of the girls. I don't think he has been too successful. A silky americauna cross would definitely bee cute. Anyone need some chicks?? They should all be good layers. The two mutts I have from my hatch last year are good layers. They are BR cross and RIR cross. These were the left overs from last years hatch for CHICKENFEST.

So I feel pretty silly about now - I brought in the two chicks I was thinking were a pair of Lavender Orpingtons, and suddenly realized one had a blue band and one had a pink band. That means they came from different hatches.

The one with the pink band is from Hardin Poultry/Heirloom Orpingtons, and could be a Lav Orp, or a single combed Am/EE. The other one, already obviously a male, is a Mayahn - hatched almost a week later, and from Mayah's mixed flock. Pretty little fellow, I must say. I'll upload the pics so you can see.
