Is this a heritage bred RIR or production/hatchery version? The reason I ask, is the hatchery types are pushed for early, consistent production, and are thus more prone to reproductive problems that will usually result in death, even if not the first time. She does sound egg bound, possibly further up than you were able to palpate, or possibly she has an egg that has broken inside her, which usually results in infection and death.

The other possibility is she is sick, having nothing to do with reproduction, in which case she should immediately be isolated from the other birds if she isn't already.

You can try starting her on antibiotics, but don't be surprised if it doesn't work and she dies. When we are able to observe symptoms in chickens it is often too late, they instinctively hide any illness. I am very sorry. I would be thrilled to see a post from you tomorrow telling me I was totally wrong and she is all better!

Here are a couple of pics of the silkie americauna chicks that are up for grabs. They are bearded, cheaked chicks with 5 toes and fuzzy feet. Colors are from a tan to a brown color. Cute little guys.

Good grief, those are adorable!!!

I agree with Suncatcher, the loss of power may have just put them behind - I will be hoping to hear tomorrow that you got a hatch after all!

We bought her from a feed store, so I believe she is a production bred RIR. I gave her some Nutri-Drench directly this morning. What antibiotics can I give her? We have some amoxicillin, so can I give her some of that?
 
I candled the eggs. One has internally pipped and is cheeping away. The other two I can't tell anything. No movement and no noise. I only looked real quick though.

I had one internally pip before and then die. I'm really hoping this one won't do that. I'm so tempted to make a little air hole for it!

Yay! Hopefully one or two more will pip too! Give it a few hours, check on it later tonight to see if it makes it thru the outer shell, it may rest for quite awhile. I have been known to help, I know you are not supposed to, but...... :D Read the assisted hatch by Sally Sunshine, she shows you step by step. Fingers crossed they make it out on their own!!! :fl
 
I've read the assisted hatch many times. lol! I wanted to be ready just in case.
I just checked and we have a pip!!! The one I saw that had pip internally has now pipped. Yeah!!!

I have never used anything not formulated for poultry, so I don't know whether amoxicillin will be okay. I usually get one of the tetracycline meds at the feed store, it takes some calculation to get it down to what to put in 1 quart or 1 gallon, but I can usually get it close, and was recently told if you treat with antibiotics don't go low or middle, go to the highest dose recommended for poultry, so you don't risk creating resistant bugs.
