We don't really have a place to move her to or a way to wall her off. I'll have to work on it if any other eggs get broken. There is egg yolk on a couple eggs. I heard you shouldn't try to clean them though. I wiped it off as best I could when the yolk was wet but I a couple are still kind of dirty. I hope it doesn't affect the rest. :(
If we get anymore broken ones I'll have to figure something out to separate her.

Could just be that 12 was too many, and she couldn't manage them safely. You might not have anymore issues, if she's able to cushion the rest of them safely. We had a hard time with our broodies, simply because the other girls kept giving them more and more eggs. Had to move them to the middle stall, in a Rubbermaid tub. Also, the Cochin girls get testy and peck anyone that dared enter their nest box.

I don't think she's the one breaking them. I checked on her later and her feet were under all the eggs. She does not protect the nest. She fluffs up when we open the box but I can get all the way under her, lift her out, etc without even a squeak from her. I left an egg in another box hoping that will encourage them to lay in that one. I have a small crate I can move her to inside the coop if we have anymore problems. I'll just have to remember to let her out of it in the morning. lol

Silver laced wyandotte?

That was going to be my guess as well, but can't tell what comb it has, and I can just about promise you it will be a male.
Interesting. Too bad she didn't take them.

2 eggs have been broken under our broody.

I don't think it's her though. The other girls are laying their eggs in there somehow. I saw our BR in there this morning after the broody came out to eat. I had to kick her out and put her in the nest box next to that. She had already laid her egg but was just sitting there like she was going to go broody. I found the first broken one then and then just now our BA egg was in there and I think she broke the second one. How do you keep them from laying eggs in that nest box? I moved the BA egg to another box hoping the other girls will lay there. Maybe I just need to keep some eggs in another box all the time so they'll add to that instead of trying to get in with the broody? I'm wondering if the broody is moving for them, they are kicking her out, or just taking advantage of her leaving. I only see her leave it once a day.
I think the broody is craving something that is in the dirt and not in their food. She ignores the bowl of food in the morning and scratches around for something. Any ideas what she's looking for? It's not usual for any of them to ignore the food (fermented grains/seeds).
Bugs, grit, ???

Can you put her and her nest into a dog crate to separate her nesting area from the others?
