Colorado

Our local bear walks through at dusk and / or dawn. The hours seem a bit odd, but that's when he stops by. Then he tips over anything that smells interesting.

I am just praying he doesn't visit the coop... That's where I have my raspberry patch, too!

Well unfortunately, the local bears in these parts have not touched the raspberries in almost 10 years, so really that is the safest place to be!!!!

LOL! That's funny. I'm glad everyone survived that "feast".

Thanks. I've been too busy to properly update it recently. I'm hoping this weekend to sit down and write a couple posts.
I think you might have both barnevelder and dark cornish. How many of those dark ones do you have?
We just moved to Elizabeth. We have a cat, dogs, a rabbit, and chickens with a dairy cow and horses on the horizon.
funny because I was thinking maybe a Cornish and Barnevelder's, we have 5 of those. I noticed yesterday they all don't have same feather patterns. We have 4 dogs, 28 chickens and bees. We are considering turkey's and goats. Maybe later in the summer or next year. We stay busy!

Where are you COChix?
We have 3 dogs, about that many chickens (and a rooster I need to get rid of!) and I have 6 beehives. How are your hives doing? Mine are doing well this year. I already have  quite a bit of capped honey.
Hey Maggie, we are north Boulder, we don't own the hives, yet. We bartered with a local bee keeper to keep he hives where we live and we get half the honey. They have all their winter reserves already and he has added two tiers to the hive since he put it on the property over a month ago. I am excited their honey is raw never heated above the temp of the hive. I also make herbal salves so am looking forward to have local beeswax for them. Where are you at?

I'm in South East Boulder off McCaslin and South Boulder Road on Davidson Mesa.
We moved here two years ago from North Boulder, off Lee Hill and Broadway. We have 2 1/2 acres now and a much smaller house and we love it.
I wonder if I know your beekeeper? It is supposed to be a good honey year because there is some sort of clover blooming that only blooms every few years, so that is great. The bees could use a break.

Hey COChix and Maggie,

Would you ever consider a trade for some honey? I live around Conifer, and I make Salted Caramels and Chocolate Truffles. Not that many are looking for candy.

I guess let me know if you might be interested, maybe PM?

possibly, but it wouldn't be until the fall when they harvest the honey. Remind me closer to then as I will more than likely forget, too much going on.

mmm. I wish I had time to get a hive this year. It is definitely on the list of things for next year. I go back and forth on the goats. I would love them to mow down some bushes we have but they are such pains in the butts. They escape everything and are like big puppies running around. I just don't know if I'm up to it. I thought about borrowing someone's goats to see how I like it. Still haven't decided yet though.

Dean? And he told us it would be a big year for the clover honey, probably due to the floods and moisture late last year. We are on 9 acres and have multiple gardens, so the bee's will help it all.

I would love to keep bees, but alas one of my kiddos is allergic. That means Agave for us, but I would love to have a secret stash for my banana pancakes! So, no go on the bees at home.

COChix, I will definitely check in with you around September. Thanks!
