Wow ladies! I'm glad you are both on the road to recovery. I hope it makes it all the way to a FULL recovery!
I agree animals are great stress relievers. If you like them that is. They are a stress reliever for me and a stressor for my husband. lol He is not an animal person. He doesn't mind them around but he hates taking care of them. I don't mind the animal chores at all (except when it hit -20 with the wind chill, I really didn't feel like going out for them then!). He can't understand it. lol
He likes the chickens the most though. When I was out of town and he had to take care of them, he stood out there and watched them and got hooked. But the rest he could do without.

He likes to say the puppies don't get to him but I saw him videoing them the other day. lol

Talk about stress reliever... sit in the middle of 7 adorable puppies crawling all over you! I'm ordering a camera or two for outside but before they go out I think I'll put one on the puppies and share the link so everyone can get some puppy time. :)

Yeah, this week has not been awesome for taking care of outside animals - or going to work or getting out of bed... :) My family used to raise Jack Russell Terriers when I was in high school and they are the best stress relievers! Puppies just make me feel better. What kind do you have?

We have 7 pug puppies. I have a million pictures but here are some cute ones from play time with Daddy today. (pics can be found on facebook also)

"I'm going to get you"

"I got you daddy!"

"mmm your ear tastes good!"

OMG! I have to tell myself...no more puppies, no more puppies.
When we were stationed in Little Rock, we bought a pug puppy and gave it to my in-laws. He's 13 now, and not doing very well...but, I promised my mother in law I would not buy her another one just yet. But, when I told her last month about your puppies, she said "awwwww!"
Hard to resist those faces. How In the world do you part with them? I'd cry.

My daughter is having a hard time parting with them. Then I tell her, you'd be the one taking it out in the snow every 2 hours to potty train it, and then it will grow into that (and point to the dad that she doesn't like) and that makes it a lot easier for her. lol
I don't find it hard at all. As long as I know they are going to good loving homes I'm happy. Puppies are a lot of work and I feel like we have plenty of dogs with the three we have. I'm glad we are almost out of the young dog stage (the dad is only a year and I don't consider them out until they are 2) and have no desire to start it all over again, so there's no lasting attachment to the little ones for me.

We plan to have another litter around the same time next year if she'll be ready then. ;)

Anyone know a good farm sitter around Elizabeth area? We are going on vacation the first week of Feb and need someone to watch the animals (preferably stay here).

I give my polish pullet Phyllis a haircut to not get her 'do frozen in ff or water, and for her to see better.

I guess I need to get my chickens their custom gluten-free feed, b/c now I am sick again with celiac disease symptoms. Which sucks, who knows someone that can guide me to where I can get this done? I just need grower and layer feed atm, as I am finishing up the last of the chick starter. I know I will probably need to get 1000 lbs of it. That's fine. I have arranged storage of it.. but this sick and the cold makes me less able to do stuff with the critters. I ordered my heated bowls off of amazon with the plug in thermostat thing. It was cheaper to do it that way than getting it at any of the feed stores I checked out fwiw. I am using the heck out of the prime membership.

Everyone is funny today in the duck/chicken run. All crowded to where the sun is shining. I should cull now, but I usually have my bf do the killing, I pluck, he guts.

Is this weather going to continue tomorrow? I just feed all the roos/ducks oats. I need them in my freezer asap. I'm only keeping 4 ducks, 3 females and 1 drake. And all my pullets, and the roos surgically decrowed and the 1 capon. This is way too much work for me in the cold.

I don't think you'll have much luck finding gluten free chicken food. I would look into making it yourself. You can order the bulk grains from Azure for a good price and they have a lot of pickup points in CO. I do wheat and oats in mine but you could do barley and oats, or corn (though don't get the whole corn - they won't eat it) instead, depending of course on exactly how sensitive you are. I think the whole grain would be easier on you than the processed stuff. But I'm not sure.

Pugs are so puppy like, even when grown! Lovely pups!!!!

Well, clouds are building to the west and south, guess our weather is going to change. It was 55 in the coop today, wish it would stay this daytime temp all of November!!!

Yikes, hope you both heal well!!!

Here is a picture of the clouds moving in........ already cold in the air.

I know nothing of gluten free feed. Are their eggs making your Celiac worse????

To Percheron Chick and all who posted about heated water bowls and keeping food and drink things warm in the winter - THANK YOU!! I love this thread and "getting to know you" and some of what you struggle with. Thank you for that as well.

It's a lovely afternoon here in Denver - at last. I hope all of you can find sunshine and warmth in your weekend.
