Of the two peeps shown above, the darker one is doing great and is very active. The lighter one is bigger and has feathered out so quickly but seems lethargic or as if something might be wrong with it...could it be that she is growing really quickly? She's half orp and half light brahma, both big birds! So is it just her growing quickly that makes her sleepy? When mama scratches for food and calls them she comes to life and runs to mom but otherwise she just sort of stands around. When my brahmas were growing up their wings hung low I think because they were in an awkward stage and their wings weren't developed enough to hold their own weight yet. That may be what's going on here too...I dunno...a little concerned.

I can't help as I haven't raised either of those breeds from chicks, but I hope she's ok. She looks good in the pic. I want her! :)

Here are a couple pics of the nest box bay I made yesterday. It is 33 inches tall, 38 inches wide with a 48 inch top and 15 inches deep. The top shelves pop out to clean around the dishpans I am using for ease of cleaning.

Of course no project is complete without a thorough inspection from Pepper, my now looking much better top hen. (terrible molt for her this year)

Here's hoping they like it.

Some chicks don't thrive, but I hope she makes it!!! She is a cutie, nice cold weather laying breeds, so she should produce a lot of eggs for you.

Cool nest boxes.

I am sooooo hoping the egg laying picks up here, only two eggs every other day out of ten hens........

I am mixing my own feed, so hope they pick up soon, they eat it up quickly thats for sure!!! T minus 21 days, and days start to get longer!!! YAY!

Trst, How are you making your auto doors? Are they hard to make?

I make them out of cordless screwdrivers. They are pretty easy if you can use a soldering iron. I have written about them on my blog and here on BYC. I'm going to add a second limit switch on them at the top in case the door doesn't stop at the bottom for some reason, it will hit something at the top and not go all the way up and burn the motor.

Thank you maggiemo and suncatcher. It does not show well in the pics but the inside is kind of a dark slate color and the outside is cream color. I love my paint sprayer.

It has now been over 3 months since laying nearly ceased here and only Pepper was laying into September at all. Now 0 eggs, none, not a one in so long I had to buy eggs to bake with.

ryan820,

I too hope that little chickie makes it. She (or he) will have cool markings it looks like.

We've been without eggs for quite awhile too! Have you tried worming your chickens? I just did mine yesterday. I used Ivermectin pour on so hopefully it will get rid of any worms and also finally get rid of the stupid lice that we can't seem to shake. I'll keep you posted if it helps with the egg production or not.

Great job on the nest boxes. They should love them.

I need some advice.
My 1 and a bit year old lavender meraucana has not been felling good I have her in the laundry in a cage (7 days now) she eat just a bit and drinks a bit water, she still walks but is all puff and wants to sleep most of the time (puts her head under feathers) she has been getting liver and meal worms, today I took he for a walk in the laundry and try to feed her again not luck on food or water, her poops are different too they have just a bit of poop and lots of water looking thing except is not water is almost like egg whites consistency (almost look like an open egg but with tinny poop in the middle and lots of egg whites) Almost look like the watery poops when they take lots of water.
Do you guys have any idea of what can be.
Was wondering if is egg talk peritonitis in that case I think i will have o cull her.
Thanks

my routine for all chickens not feeling right... warmth, special food they can't resist, probiotics (yogurt, etc), water w/ vitamins force fed if necessary. I find keeping them hydrated (especially with runny poops) is the most important. Even if you have to syringe the water into their mouth every hour or so, keeping them hydrated is super important. A warm bath can often help too as long as they don't get chilled afterwards. And getting them back to their flock as soon as you can. Being separated makes them depressed and can slow healing.

Thanks Trsturself, I just push some water with vitamins on her. I am afraid to get her with the rest in case is something worse and contagious.
She di not want to touch the yogurt.
