I wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. It's just really frustrating & disappointing since I was all excited to start this New Thing with the chickens. Just have to postpone it for a little while longer. i guess the bright side is that I'm lucky enough to have health insurance & a job that has options for me. Both involve pay cuts, but one is less than the other if I qualify. I have to learn to wait.

My mom is trying to convince me to still try hatching eggs next month. I know that it's no guarantee any will hatch but if she's willing to help me take care of any that do hatch if I can't afford them, I might still try. It would be nice to know if Odysseus is actually doing anything other than just the motions. Brain trauma did not curb my curiosity at all. :)

So I have been struggling with the no eggs issue all winter long.
Yesterday I went out to the coop expecting again no eggs I was all like

. I looked under my Blue Andalusian who oddly enough is trying to be broody and was all like

and

and

because she had 5 yes 5 eggs in there that were not there the day before. I took them out and not having my basket was carrying them in my hand. Yes, you guessed it. I dropped one. I was all like

and

and even

.

I am glad they are trying to get back to laying. I did give them an unusual treat on Monday. They had something that the dog was verrrrrrryyyyy interested in. I gave them oatmeal with mackerel and oyster shell and a little scratch mixed in.
Not sure if it helped them get started up or just a coincidence.

I sure hope the eggs do not taste funny or I will be all like

.

Had to share my happy.

I thought my hens had stopped laying eggs until this morning when I found they had been burying them as deep as they could in the deep litter. There were 3 in a front corner of the coop & 3 in a back corner! And then 2 more out in their run this afternoon!

Must be the break in the cold weather - everyone's feeling more energetic! :)

Just cleaned the whole coop. I should have waited til this afternoon. Kind of hard to clean with everyone acting like they need to lay an egg lol. I am so glad they are getting back to normal.
Of course my usual inspectors had a lot to say about my activities.
I really like having the one big coop. I have to use less shavings and it takes less time to clean.

Uzi,

Them is some sneaky chickens hiding the eggs on you.
If you want to hatch some littles out and your mom is willing to help you out with them I am thinking go for it. It would make me curious if there were fertile ones too.
You are very lucky that your job has some options for you. I cannot imagine being injured and all the stress that you must be going through trying to get better.
Hang in there, the best is yet to come.

hopefully your job is looking at short term disability or FMLA. STD is a reduced pay but keeps your job safe for awhile. I had to go through that when I was working and having all my neck issues.

Yea! Great you have eggs again.

We have gotten 18 eggs the last two days. I had a question regarding oyster shells, what brand is everyone using? I ask because I was getting some through the guy that was delivering my feed from Happy Hens.biz and our girls really liked it. It was actual oyster shells not that white looking crap from Manna. Well I had run out and was feeding the stuff from Manna and we wre getting less than 14 eggs a day. Once I ran out i started feeding their eggshell back to them and low and behold we started getting more eggs. Not sure if it is the eggshells or nicer weather.

I am switching them to the actual oyster shell today. I found it in bulk at Jax. I have no idea what brand it could be. I had only ever seen the chunky white manna stuff before.
Mine never touch the white chunky manna stuff. I have struggled with crappy shells from some of my hens for a long time and hope the oyster shell helps.

Can you give me the name brand of oyster shell? I looked on their website and I don't see anything.
