I am not sure that the same people have owned Hygiene for 20 years. ???? There are two brothers that own it now, don't know, and honestly, I do not remember who owned it 20 years ago.
But, the same family has owned Niwot feed since forever! I first met them in '85 and they are a hoot and now their sons pretty much do most of the work there.
I tend to shop where the closest place to my chore list is when I come down for supplies, even the Mead Co-op. They have great prices, but it needs to be on my major shopping day.
I try to avoid Murdochs - (big chain) but sometimes, you need something on Sunday or late or whatever. At least we have options!

I have some eggs set from eggs off Ebay and from "Percheron Chick" in Margie's incubator. I just got a call from a friend with a broody hen and she wants some fertile eggs. Can I move a few of the eggs in the incubator under her broody?
The eggs were only set yesterday.
Thanks.

How long as she been sitting? I'd wait until I knew she was in it for the long run. You can always give her some chicks when they hatch. On a related note, my BL has finally started to lay again. Couldn't tell is it was fertile. By the time I got the yolk to roll over, I popped it. Green ones were.

I have a question on ordering chicks....
I am looking at Ideals site and the order keeps saying it can ship 4-29. I am wondering if anyone thinks that we may be to hot by then. I was hoping to have them raised enough to be laying by next winter. If I order from Ideal will I be to late to have them raised up enough?

How are your BLRW doing? We are in the Springs and get a shipment of day olds this week. We are so excited! I can't wait to have some BLRW!!!
Welcome!!! Some very nice breeds, please post pictures once they arrive!

So got my feeders built and they are ready to be put in the run but need some crumbles. Funny story called Hygiene feed yesterday to make sure they had what I wanted and then we drove up there and they were closed. I forgot they close at 12 on Sat and we were thre by 12:20

oh well I will get crumbles tomorrow.

My understanding is the 5 gallon bucket feeder will hold 25# of feed, I am hoping we can get 75# in the 15 gallon feeder. Maybe have to feed every three to four weeks.

We got about 6 inches of snow overnight. I have completed my horizontal nipples project, both bucket have their heaters in them. They seem to be working just fine.
Thanks for the pictures of your feeders. I will be moving all my feeders and waterers inside this year. Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!!!!!

I had May pullets last year and they've been wonky about laying this winter. I like the earlier start.

I think the end of April will not be very hot for shipping chicks. Depends on what breeds you are getting as to how early they lay. The production birds I have bought from the feed stores usually lay around five months of age. The Heritage types, like my Barnevelders and Marans lay around eight months of age.

She said her hen has been broody for almost a month. She doesn't think she will ever give up so she wants to give her some eggs.

Is BL the leghorn?

and I will never shop at Hygiene because the owner treated me like a second class citizen 20 years ago. I don't forgive too easily. Niwot on the other hand has always gone above and beyond.
I love your horse picture! I am a girl and i am using my dad's account. But what type of horse is it?
