Do you have a chicken that is egg bound? If that is it, they have liquid calcium at Walgreen's that works really fast. You can crush a Tum's up too...you know that I am sure.
It is mud season, yuck! How are the hatches going Maggie, DK and Samsr?
Is it a bad thing that I am already bored with my recovery? Yesterday I felt like poop, which wasn't much fun. I have been able to collect some eggs and take greens to the gang.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!!! Nice you were able to spend some time with your chickens. Yep, muddy here too, but it beats a two foot snow drift any day!
Mud! I feel like that's going to be my biggest nemesis with my birds. Especially since I'm apparently not smart enough to get a tarp over the top of my pen without it halfway falling down from the wind, and then collecting eleventy billion gallons of melted snow that can only be dumped off into the pen.
I had a rough night after work last night.
I'm glad you don't feel so bad today, @COchick and I hope the rest of your recovery is speedy!
Hi, I am new to all this chicken stuff. We adopted 9 full grown hens in Colorado Springs (Falcon area). The previous owner was in voilation of her HOA and had to give up her hens. They are so sweet and adjusting to their new life. I have a question. We changed feed to Ranch Way Organic no gmo with omega. It's a meal. I love the quality. They seem to love it too. My question is I am using the adopted feeder a bucket style feeder that hangs from the ceiling. I find the meal is heavy and doesn't feed into the area they eat from very well. Do any of you use this feed and what sytle of feeder do you use. I was wondering if a pvc style feeder would work better. You input would be greatly appreciated. I will post pictures of our marathon chicken run project that I completed last week to make sure our new girls have a safe place to play. TIA. Kathy
Here is our chicken run marathon that took place last week.
Saturday - decide to adopt 9 sweet hens
Sunday - design run
Monday locate lumber needed from fence we tore down last fall, order hardware cloth from Amazon
Tuesday - measure 15 times cut once and use the Kreg jig to put all pilot hole for run construction. Put the 3 walls together in preparation for full assembly.
Wednesday- Daughter's Fiance leveled coop area with skid loader. I constructed the frame by myself (planned that way) in 40 minutes
Thursday - Received hardware cloth in afternoon, put up 3 side, and top sections in about 2 hours, temporarily stapled them in place.
Thursday Night - Pick up Chickens and move coop to property.
Friday - Finished up hardware cloth, install gate and attach to coop
Next project - add more ventilation (windows). Previously the chickens free ranged out the large coop door which was open all day. The previous owner started with 24 chickens she was down to 9 as "they would just disappear." We have resident hawks and owls not to mention the possibility for fox and coyotes. Because they are housed at my Daughters home with my grandson's 3 and 7 who are already completely attached, we can't just let our girls disappear. So, we will add windows. Has anyone fashioned a screen door for the large door to allow ventilation and light through the big door? If so, I would love to hear how you did it and pictures too please.
