There are 2 brown and 2 blue that are for sure alive/moving.
I haven't pitched any yet. I am going out of town Friday, so I will probably look at the ones that aren't moving, and pitch them. I am worried that they will explode while I am gone. None are weeping or smell....I just have no idea what  I am doing...

We kept some longer than we should have, and never had any pop on us. I like the, keep if if you're not sure, approach. I wouldn't want to chuck something that was possibly hatchable....Apple is telling me that 'hatchable' isn't a word but, if Apple had ever hatched eggs, it would know that it totally IS a word.

I really hate when it does that, because every time I try to leave the word, it changes it. And then, I have to yell at it, and my husband gives me that look...ya know, the "are you ok?" look. Yes, I'm fine...but Steve, that's my iPads name, is dumb.

Uzi, how are the polish hens for laying egg? They are without a doubt adorable.

For my purposes, they lay more than enough. However, they're more decoration than utilitarian for me. If you're looking for chickens that primarily lay eggs, you probably don't want a Polish. I have 4 right now & while all are laying at this point, I only get 1-3 on any given day. I've gotten about 40 eggs the past month. On average, I think for 4 hens you'd probably expect closer to 120 (this is assuming all 4 lay once a day for 30 days). Even though mine are less than a year old right now, from what I've read here the breed overall aren't the most reliable layers. I just get a kick out of the way they look!

Just because you are not seeing movement in the egg while you candle it does not mean it is not viable, sometimes they are resting!!

So don't throw them out because of no movement.

ok. Thanks for the support. The eggs I haven't seen any movement in look different than the ones with movement. Some I can just see, what I think is a yolk floating. Some, I think have 'blood rings' but I'm not sure. I wish there were more pictures of 'quitters' and blood rings. There are lots of pictures of live embryos. I can see that they are ok, I need to see what an egg that started and quit looks like.

Part of this process is to learn. Leave them in the bator until you get back. Candle them. If still no changes, crack one open and see what's going on. Only way to know. I had 30 day guinea egg duds that never smelled or exploded.

I'll let you know what I find. I'll get back Monday morning, so that is day 16 so I should surely know what is viable or not by then, right?
Margie, PC, anyone...when you hatch in the incubator do you put the eggs in cartons for hatching/lock-down or do you lay them on their sides on some shelf liners or something they won't slip on?
