Never thought of that. It would be a whole other world that I'm not prepared to get in to at this point in my life. I'd prefer to re-home her, although there was a really interesting thread just today about breaking a mean hen of the habit. So if no one wants my Speckli, I will try to get her to change her ways.

I am thinking about it but probably no, I have some really annoying NN hens, try using a large dog crate.

You know that might just be true about the plain packaging. The best luck I had on shipped eggs they were in a plain brown box, with nothing written on it..... 60 percent hatch rate!!!

Well, does not paint a very nice picture of our ex military veterans does it, which is mostly what works at the Post Office these days. I heard that ALL jobs are offered to war vets and ex military first, only after that are other applicants considered. Not sure if it is true or not.

Please don't take offense a former Army brat here, I have seen it all..........

That's really sad that we have to worry about them shaking a box of eggs.
The SFH egg seller actually put foil above and below the eggs inside the box, and I assumed it had something to do with possible X-rays.

This is true. Prefference goes to vetrans especially disabled vetrans. I am a vetran but needed to get away from the federal government after i got out.
No offense taken. I know how a lot of them are.

Having both parents work for the government until just recently and having worked in the government since the age of 16, I'm pretty sure it's the work environment that gets most of us. I'd like to think people don't start out that way; it just wears you down really fast, military or not.

my postman out here told me that if the sender puts live embryos and do not xray on the box, you can be guaranteed some a-hole employee with throw the box and around and go out of their way to xray it, he told me to tell the sender to put nothing on the box, he giveS me the real dirt on it, i give him free eggs and in the summer vegetables from the garden so he is pretty good about telling me the real deal.

Maybe this brings new meaning to going Postal! So, sad there are people like that out there but I imagine your postman knows his stuff.

More newbie flock behavior questions and observations...

The little Bantam hen, Thing 1, keeps getting pecked, about 1/3 of her head feathers are missing. She is a stressed out wreck. I do think she is broody. Sitting in the nest all day but she comes out anytime I bring food or treats. However, when she's in the nest and sees Big Smiles (the main pecking culpurt) She freaks. She squawks and goes speeding out of the nest like a shot. She also runs around very quickly when she is with the flock which seems to draw attention to herself because the others are relaxed and scratching around for goodies. Should I try to isolate her? I have added roosts outside in the run along with feeding scratch and sprouted greens. I also made a flock block that they have loved. I will make more for the upcoming cold week.

I am less inclined to think that Big Smiles is the instigatore as much as she is attracted to Thing 1's fear and broodiness and hogging of the preferred nest boxes.

Does that no-peck ointment work to discourage further pecking in the area that is showing signs of abrasion from the continued pecking?

Any thoughts.

Yep, the shipped eggs I had good luck with were wrapped in foil. After reading a comment on another forum, someone posted their uncle worked at DHS and stated ALL packages are Xrayed, so not sure why the USPS says they aren't???? Imagine how many people could actually hatch their eggs if they were protected this way with foil. When buying shipped eggs I always ask for foil, I usually ask before I bid, as have won an auction, and when I asked that they be wrapped in foil, he stated they were already packed....... yep, not one hatched.
