Two weeks is not that big a difference, if you are going to add quite a few more the next go around, I would say this weeks will be outnumbered...... but, I have been wrong before! If they are a breed you, really, really wanted, get them.

Welcome!! And, that is an adorable picture!!!

Three weeks of age is about when chicks form a flock and issues can happen, but they are still small. I would get the chicks that you want and add the other ones in 2 weeks. You may want to set up a divider in the brooder for a couple of days just so the new ones can learn where things are and get a bit stronger. After three weeks old, the older ones will recognize newbies as strangers and more precautions should be taken to prevent harm to the little ones. I have added babies to almost three week olds and had no problems but every flock is different. Good luck! I am so jealous of all the new ones that you guys have......

I can divide the brooder. I just wish this was going as planned. But then when do things ever really go as planned.

I think I will do the divide and put the polish in with the aussies when I get the aussies. The polish will be closer in age to the aussies than the others.
Maybe they will get the aussies early too.

Been a really crazy year for the hatcheries with this weather too. I guess mistakes happen.

I hear you.... A week or so before my order came in, the feed store called to tell me my Blue Andalusians and BLRWs were delayed till March 21st. I was super bummed! Can't have chicks over 4 weeks apart in age! :( and then the other feed store that was supposed to get Polish the same week called and told me they aren't getting them till this week. I'm still considering going in to grab two of them, they would be about 2 weeks behind my bunch.

The boss called me and I have a green light for Wednesday off. My schedule is so messed up now. I get Wednesday off but have to work Thursday and Friday. I was supposed to be getting 2 weeks off but a co worker quit today so my vacation is not going to happen. I will end up with 2 days off instead of 10.

DH said he will help me build a smaller brooder to keep in the house since the one I built is huge and has to go in the main coop.

Super great to get them but the majority will already be almost a week old if not a full week on Wednesday.

Bummer about your other chickies Rochelesmit. What kind of Polish were you going to get? The one I am getting mine from got the Buff Laced a week early and that is what is pushing my schedule.

Are you getting yours from Kiowa? I know they were supposed to get buff Polish later this week. I'd be bummed as I was just out that way yesterday looking at some property!!! I totally would have grabbed a couple! Too far to drive out there for just 2 chicks though. :(
I don't even care what color I get, I just want laced! Wardle said they should have silver laced and maybe some golden laced this week. They won't hold chicks for you though. That's why I always order between Kiowa and Elizabeth for the same week. Much less stress.
Goodness, what a bummer about your vacation!!! Worst timing ever! :(

It is the Kiowa store that got the Buff laced in early. They just got them in today. She said they were not expecting any chicks today so was shocked when she got the call from the post office.

You could always get more than 2 to make the trip worth it.

I have to drive about 120 miles one way to get there. (I am getting 22 chickens. Don't tell DH he does not know)

I am totally bummed about the vacation time. I really needed a break from work. I have not taken time off in years. We are a small company with few employees so I try to be flexible for the owner. I am one of only 3 long timers there, kind of makes it hard to get time off.

Oh boy. The buff laced ones are so pretty. Haha, we are only adding 6 chickens to our flock... And I already have 10 chicks! Arrgh! Hmmmmmmm... so tempted to drive down in the morning... It takes an hourish to get to the Kiowa feed store from my house. It would make them kinda pricy if I factor in gas... Is it sad I'm sitting here calculating what 43 miles times 2 divided by my average mileage times the current price of gas is?!?! Gahhhh!!! Why did you have to tell me?!? I'll have to call them in the morning. Maybe they will all be reserved and that will make it easy.

I say get what you want, even if you have to have them 2 or 3 weeks apart in age. I couldn't find blr wyandottes but I wanted them. I hatched some of my own chicks for fun. Then a local person put a couple month old BLR's up for sale. I got them, divided the brooder for several days, and put them together with no trouble at all. So they were 4.5 weeks and 2 weeks. I watched like a hawk at first, but there were only a couple soft pecks. now they are all piled up together.

I had to tell you because that is what all responsible enablers do.

I am not going to be liking the weather for the trip down on Wednesday but at least the boss is giving me the day off and not just an hour or two in the afternoon.
