Guess what? I might be able to join the chick happenings! My Psycho Broody from last year growled at me this am! I am so excited! She is a great mama if not a bit on the scary side when it comes to dealing with her and her eggs/chicks. Sweet!
By the way, it is snowing - 2 inches so far and 15 degrees.

I hope one of mine goes broody soon, I can count on at least two or three that set...... Wind blew most the night here, only half an inch so far, sun is out, but clouds are building to the south, so only a matter of time before the snow is flying here again!

Curse you all! Now I have to hope my hubby doesn't notice the two new tiny puffballs running around with the other chicks.

On a side note, regarding integration, I have nine 2 week olds and one 3 week old. The only ones that showed any problems were the 2 week old EE and Iowa blue. A bit of chest bumping and a couple pecks. But seemed to resolve in 5 min or so. They are spunky little buggers though, I'm pretty sure they are about a third of the size of the others and they are holding their own.

21hens, I said hi to your chicks. I would have offered to pick them up for you and cut your drive, but I'm a flight attendant and on call the next 3 days so more than likely, I won't be home tomorrow

Yes, have 2 super cute buff polish now. Only because 21hens had to tell me they arrived early... And only because I didn't get called out to work this morning.... And only because it is completely reasonable to drive 50min each way to pick up 2 blasted chicks!!!

I knew you had to have them. OMG that is such a cute chick. I can hardly wait.
I did a quick look at my lumber stash and it looks like I can make a 3x5 brooder to fit in my office for all my littles. OH dear God how will I ever be able to come home with just 4 of those poofy headed little monsters.

I hope they sold that last buff brahma so I do not get to tempted to add that one to the mix.

They have a lot left from last week! I was tempted to get another partridge rock as the one I got from that batch is just the sweetest little thing. But I resisted. My husband still hasn't said anything, but now I think I'll have to tell him because I need to make sure they are checked for pasty butt as I got sent to Vegas!!!

Speaking of chicks, this is going to be the longest 21 days of my life & that's counting the months I was bedridden! I keep staring at my incubator, hoping my mutant ability kicks in & I can will the eggs to develop into chicks faster. I just hope at least 1 is fertile & makes it to chick-hood. I'm not too worried about the Phoenix bantam eggs since the breeder seems reputable & the Brinsea has been an A+ incubator so far. Just depends on if any want to hatch at this elevation, I guess.

Hi gogetter,
I have only hatched eggs once in an incubator (thanks Margie!). Half the eggs were local and 1/2 were shipped from California. All the eggs shipped developed and 1/2 hatched. The local eggs that were fertile all developed and hatched but one died.
I didn't/don't know anything about hatching eggs, I just stuck them in the incubator and waited 21 days. I am just sharing what happened.
There are others here who can give you more info on why and how.
