Colorado

Hello, all you chicken-obsessed people in Colorado. I am new to this thread - and to chickens, too - and am hoping to discover what's happening with chickens in Colorado. I live in Berthoud and just completed my first HAL with BYC. Learned a lot. Now I have 19 or so Light Suusex chicks and maybe 6 speckled Sussex Chicks i would like to give to someone who can appreciate them and give them a good home. Am looking for ideas on feeders, huddle boxes, and shelters for growing out potential breeders in Colorado. It is good to know you all are around out there. EVERYBODY should have chickens!

Quote: That looks like a Speckled Sussex or a Partridge Rock pullet there. Nice energetic breeds. (The more solid color head is why I am leaning toward Partridge Rock.) Looks to be about a month old to me.
The solid black could be Black Sex Link. Black Australorp would be black with a yellow underside and pink on the bottom of the feet as chicks. Jersey Giant would be like a Black Australorp but with yellow on the bottom of the feet.
With the breeds I listed a Roo will show itself pretty clearly in the early comb development.
Still hopeful for girls for you.

Welcome to the Colorado thread.
There are some really neat feeders that people have made listed in the feeding and watering section. I like the bucket feeders and I know some folks on this thread have made them.
There is a bird and livestock swap coming up in May on the 9th at Tractor Supply in Brighton. I saw it listed on Craigslist after I could not make the one in April. May be a good place to sell your chicks.

For whatever reason, it doesn't seem like there has been many chicks for sale on CL. Even if they're S/R, you should be able to sell them. If you can wait and grow them out to almost POL, you can easily sell them for $20 each.

So what's your current set up and what are your goals? We're usually more than happy to spend your money, err help you. How many coops, # of birds, # of breeds...

I am new to chickens; we live in Pueblo. I have a dozen little chickies in my spare bedroom and I want to take them outside! Hurry up, Summer!

And to the Colorado thread.
I agree come on summer.
Always curious as to what breeds others are getting into. SO what did you get?????

WOW Super cute little ones there. LOVE the coloring on the light ones.
I have a few to many breeds to list lol.
From Brahma to Wyandottes and many in between.
Gotta love them little monsters.

Hey there all you Newbies! Glad to have you here. Cute chicks. I really like the Sussex, very talkative. My one little baby is doing okay with Momma.
Almost 28 inches of "Colorado" fell on our place. Done with this whole shoveling scene.
Here are the track leavers..... listen close..

Thanks 21, I will check out the TS swap. Have never been to one. Am sort of afraid I'll buy some more. I have made and use and like the bucket feeders. I would like to modify them so that I can fill them without going into the velociraptors' pens, maybe with PVC pipe. Mice get in mine, and my birds roost on them, and the rowdy cocks knock them over. This last year I kept the food and water in covered shelters, out of the wind and rain, but the shelters were only 4' high and access was a PITA. Bigger shelters will help and I'm working on that. Again, thank you. Will let you know how it goes.
