Interesting article. I will have to do that in my workshop. It has open spots that they get into and build nests in there too. The porch is just a concrete slab that has a big crack in it. They are going in the crack and building under the concrete. I am going to try spraying the rest of the can in there and filling it with concrete from a bag. Then I will add some water to basically dry set the whole mess. Kind of a wasp tomb if you will.
I thought about silicone but not knowing how big it gets could be a lot of silicone.

Oops, I thought it was in the roof area..... my bad!

you could also buy a can of that spray expanding foam (insulation) and spray that into the crack at night after they're all in. Be careful, it doesn't take a whole lot and when they say it expands, they aren't kidding! it will seal the crack, be water tight, and harden over a couple of hours. they won't be getting back out through the crack.

We did the expanding foam thing on a nest at work a couple years ago. It was in the crack between the asphalt and the building. We sealed the entire edge of the building. It took like 30 cans. Two days later they had chewed a hole through it and were mad as heck.

Thinking I may end up calling in a pro if I cannot seal that mess up. I need a new porch anyway so may end up sealing it up and jack hammering it out this winter. I prefer wood anyway to concrete. I would build a new wood stoop and put in a paver or stone sitting area out there. I have garter snakes that live under the dang thing too.

I think it is just telling me it is time to take it all out. The house is old and needs more work than my old bones want to do anymore.

They're finally here! (squeals like a 6-year-old)... They took to the chick starter and water right away, and have settled in for a nap.
