I have a pair each: Rhode Island Red, Golden Buff, and Easter Egg
Dog has already been by to give them a sniff, with the cover on the brooder, and Dog is completely uninterested. Their little personalities are starting to show, and I'm laughing my head off at the whole 'but I don't want to nap' as they slowly melt to the ground. We might add a few more in spring, but I figured I would start with some of the easier breeds.

Kind of extreme. LOL DH and I agree just eat the rest of the dang chicken.

I heard this cool bird I've never heard before while I was working on my coop. Looked up in the tree and expected to see a smaller bird, not huge, but when it flew over my head, it sure had a big wing span. Anyone know what it is? They have a nest in my neighbors tree...I believe it's too small to get my chickens but now I'm a little worried.

Kinda scary to have near the chickens.
I would not put it past any hawk to try for a chicken. I had an American Kestrel try for mine while I was standing right next to them. I had to step between the little dive bomber and the hen. NOT a small hen either it was a large Delaware the darn thing was after.

I would say it looked more like a northern goshawk but the coloring is still off. I've been trying to get some better pictures all day but they've been gliding the wind, maybe a hundred feet up. Tomorrow morning I'll be out again and can hopefully get better pictures. One of my hens is smaller so she could definitely be a target, however, it was about the size of my smallest hen. Ugh, I really don't want to have to build a run.

What does a hawk attack look like? It could explain one I found dead maybe a month ago.
