Wow, weather is cooling down at night here!

Congrats on processing your first chickens, is a learning experience for sure!

Sorry, no experience with that vet, hope your chicken gets better and stays well!!

Hi All- It's been a while since my last post- My girls are all doing great (aside from the end of summer egg slow down). I have a question for those of you familiar with Polish chickens. I picked up two golden laced "pullets" on a whim about 6 weeks ago. I thought they were about 3 months old at the time, but since then, they've put on a lot of body weight (I suspect they were much younger now). This week, one has decided to (ahem) exercise it's vocal cords, which has alerted me to the fact that perhaps they weren't both pullets after all. The woman I purchased them from assured me they were pullets and offered to exchange them if there had been a mix-up, but before I try to get in touch with her, I am wondering if Polish are extra loud and perhaps I'm mistaken? Do the hens make crazy noises that sound like peacocks? I don't see any sickle feathers yet and only one is developing what looks like a red peacomb (no wattle on either of them yet).

Any ideas? They are nice looking chicks, so if they are roos I'll be sad to see them go.

i'm super worried about eyp. i posted on the diseases thread with photos. i don't know if popping out an intact egg yolk rules out eyp, since she did that yesterday--the first in 7 days (and she lays pretty regularly, but usually with no shell, just a membrane; sometimes a very thin shell)....but that swelling in her abdomen has me frightened. she's 3 i think and i just don't know if surgery is the best route monetarily. i have such a limited amount of space for laying birds, much less spayed birds. we'll see what happens!

I have 4 polish, can you post a picture? I can probably tell if it is a roo with some certainty at that age.
Good luck with your bird yawningreyhound. Sorry, no experience with that vet.

edited to add....you know how polish aren't supposed to be broody? they are my MOST broody birds, maybe even more broody than my bantams!

Mine are very chatty, but it's a wicked witch like cackling or a purring noise when they're getting ready to lay eggs.
