No contract or money in hand yet, so not counting coup just yet, but very hopeful. She kept saying how much she liked the place when I took her through and it was in no way shape or form ready for a potential buyer walk through

Morning all! I'm so excited for you COChix, I'm resisting getting an incubator but I don't know how long my willpower will last, specially if I don't get any broody hens to raise next seasons chicks. The rooster is starting to fit in over here. He seems to be getting the hang of things, and I haven't seen him flogged by any of the hens in the past day. Fingers crossed he stays as polite as he is now. I also made a new roosting ladder! Since I'm more than doubling my flock in two weeks, I thought they could use more room once the babes arrive. and bonus it was made from all scrap wood and downed trees. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Spring forward weekend!! YAY! Hope everyone enjoys this gorgeous weather!!

Roosting ladder looks great, especially with a chicken on each limb. That is remarkable.

So far no bunny bites out of any of the tulip leaves here. I have about 400 tulips so that should say something about him not liking them. The iris fare well as do the crocus so far.

Tomorrow I plant potatoes in shavings bags I have saved up. We shall see how they do in due time of course. I also have onion sets ready to go in but need to build more raised boxes so they should be in by next weekend.

I hope everyone is enjoying a nice day with little wind and not getting all wet.

Thanks for the reminder that it is time to treat for mites or at least inspect for them.

Wow, 400 tulip bulbs! I used to grow all sorts of the little species tulips, will have to try them again. There are a few iris here, and the bunnies leave them alone; I'm inspired by your successes.

It seems they tend to like the things with broad leaves as my asters did not go unmolested. OH and Rhodadendron are left alone as well. Actually the bunnies have left all of my bulb items alone including all the summer blooming Crocosmia. (I know I probably spelled all that wrong lol)

Day 1 of incubation - DONE - no issues overnight with bator spikes. Just another 20 days to go.

Forgot to mention when I picked up hatching eggs the lady we picked them up from in Bennett, has all sorts of mated ducks and geese. She has eggs for eating and hatching as well. Beautiful ducks and birds. If anyone is interested let me know and I can pm you her contact info. Nice lady. Just wanted to pass along.

21hens, I am encouraged by your gardening successes. When I moved here, I tried planting some sedums and hardy ice plants (along with some other notably bullet proof natives), and what the wind didn't desiccate, the bunnies ate. Once things are started pretty well, I think they'll have a chance. Of all the sedums I tried, only the S. spectabile thrived, and it did it with neglect. My chickens ATE the houseplants I put outside, and everything else. I have a new strategy now: it is to keep chickens OUT, rather than IN, and to rotate their free range areas to those places I want cleared of vegetation.

OK, my two little Silkie chicks are coming home on Wednesday, and I'm looking at ways to do a quick and dirty MHP. Would be nice if my Silkie flock would adopt them, though.

COCHix, I , too, am keeping my fingers crossed for your hatch. I am so tempted by your friend in Bennett's offerings.

The only sedum that I have had survive is one called dragons blood. It does it even though that bed is in the land of the lost. I really should pay more attention to the side yard.
There are things that they say will do nicely but they do not tell you what altitude or how much care until established things need. I have had more then my fair share of wasted time and money on plants that just cannot hang tough.

One thing that thrives with little care for me and self seeds like mad is ox eye. It blooms a pretty yellow. I mixed the seeds with bachelor buttons and get yellow pink and blue flowers. They are not perennials but self seed so produce nicely. The bunnies tend to leave them alone but I doubt the chickens would.

I will have to look and see if I have any pics in the camera that I can upload. New computer has NOTHING in it as of yet. I am awful about not taking pics when I should.

This is the side yard with Zebra grass, Diablo ninebark, thornless blackberries and some lambs ear. OH and the neglected end is a small bed with a white lilac, sedum and a few iris.
I think bunnies would leave the zebra grass alone since it is large and rough in texture. I often forget to water this area so things have to be tough to make it there.
