Colorado

Mine devoured the insulation off my AC line before I knew what had happened lol. Had to fence it off to keep them off it.

Uzi,
Those chickens find the darndest things to eat sometimes. I am bummed that he found metal. (thinking keeping him away from magnets may be a good idea lol.) I know my chickens have tried to eat all sorts of things they should not. I am sure they have eaten things I would rather they did not. They found an old matchbox car in the dirt they excavated in their run. It looked to have been in the dirt for decades. I was so worried that they had eaten the wheels.

They really do! I guess it wasn't something to worry about since she sent him home, but I just had the biggest facepalm moment when she said they saw it on the X-Ray. Reminded me of a couple months ago when the peacock had gotten ahold of a piece of plastic bag, tried to swallow it, got it wrapped around his beak/nares & I had to tackle him to get it off/out of his face/mouth. They wil *try*l eat anything!

Well seems as though my IB is a rooster. Does anyone in the area (or close) want a nice roo for their collection? I live in town and they view crowing dimly, so it's either re-home him or see how well a no crow collar works!

Aw, your Iowa Blue I was so excited to learn about! I feel fortunate now that only one of my 7 turned out to be a rooster, ha. I can keep him because I live out in b.f.e. So far he's shaping out to be a good boy although the girls do not appreciate any of his affections yet

Hi everyone! I'm going to just slide right in this thread and introduce myself. I live in Lakewood just west of Denver. I began my adventures in chicken keeping this year and it's been fun/not so fun. I wanted pets more than egg producers. We can have 4 hens and I went with Silkies due to being small and run/coop constraints. I got 5 chicks this spring expecting to at least end up with one rooster. Well, that didn't go as planned at all. I had 4 roosters out of 5 chicks and it has been heartbreaking to say the least. I guess that's how it goes! I did recently acquire a cute bantam cochin hen and I will probably try my hand at raising some more chicks while I still have time this year. Something bantam, not sure what breed yet.

No one warned me how addictive it can be!

Welcome to BYC and the Colorado thread. Sucks when most of what you thought would be hens/pullets turn out to be roosters

Then you have the unfortunate issue of trying to find homes for them, which becomes even more difficult if you don't want them to be dinner for the new owner... Anyway, hope you have better luck next time!

He's very rooster-y :)
Very majestic! Love those large waddles! I'm uncertain what I am going to do with my cockerel at this point. No bites from Craigslist or here. I live right next to a farm where they have cattle, but should I just do knock on the door and ask if they want him! I'm hoping someone on this forum knows of a farm that will take him. Last resort is take him to Wardell's.
