NICE first egg there Robilyn81!!!!!! Pretty color too.

I am thinking that Margie was indicating the temp this morning when she said 38.

It is getting chilly in the mornings down here too. Winter is on its way soon.

I made a new bench for the front porch and forgot to post a pic.

Now just to find time to actually get to sit on it.

Unfortunately, my flock had their first encounter with a raccoon last night and Igor was killed. I'm really heartbroken because he was my favourite and it's not a great thing to find first thing in the morning. The other babies had some damage but are still alive. I'm hoping I can get some help securing stuff.

I'm so sorry.

It's never a great feeling to lose an animal but it's just that much worse when it's a favorite. I hope you feel better and can get your coop secure. I bet that little vermin will be back.

Sounds like it is time for a live trap. That coon WILL be back. You dont necessarily have to release them alive. If you are still working for who you used to work for ask one of them. They will let you know. Thats a land owner thing and protecting your livestock. I am saving up for electric around my coop. One to fend off a pesky bear that has been hanging around. I dont know if DOW has caught it or not. He is a yearling and probably kicked out by his mom this summer.

Well, my dad was the main trapper for state/fed ag so when it doesn't come back (because you're right, it will be back) it's not going to be leaving. At least not in the physical sense. It just feels defeating to have had zero deaths/major incidents my first year, and then 3 deaths, medical issues, predators this year. I feel like I totally crapped the bed this year.
