This wind has been terrible! Last night, I was cornered and accosted by a tumbleweed that was taller than me!

I have a mystery that makes me nervous. It's a two parter, the two parts may or may not be related.

Part 1:
Around 9:00pm my husband went to get something from the car. He came in and asked me if the ducks can trip the motion light because the light by the coop was on. The answer is, not generally from within their coop but it is possible. I wasn't that worried because sometimess be the wind just blows something that trips the light. I went out to check, husband had me take the dog and the machete, and all seemed well. I locked them in their house for the night.

Close to this time (forget f this was before or after) while in the house, the dog started barking, really worked up with all her fur up. We went outside again, she barked some more, and nothing of note.

Part 2:
This morning I was filling the duck pool (finally warm enough!) and there was dried blood on the ground in the duck run. The ducks were still locked in their house. I let them out, no one is obviously injured. No sign of blood on the ducks or in their house. I will give them a more thorough exam later.

It's got my feathers ruffled to say the least.

Do they have a run? Purhaps something got in the area and injured itself in the process. It may have been something eating feed on the ground. I would suggest a game camera.

This makes me feel better. Maybe something cut itself on the wire fencing trying to get in the run to eat spilled feed instead of something attacking the ducks. Either way, I'm working on the fence a bit when I get home.

I'm on my second batch of chicks. First batch doesn't have breeds I want to add to my flock so what's another 23? I usually get my chicks from Feeder Supply because she has such a nice selection. They were out of EEs which were a must. Stopped at Jax jik . They had the fattest, largest most colorful selection of EEs I have ever seen. Walked out with 10. They have switched to Hoover so we'll see how they feather out.

I am surviving chick days so far! My last trip to Murdoch's they were sold out of everything!

If anything, I'm thinking I'll let my ducks hatch a clutch if/when they ever start laying. Still in a bit of a molt, but there's been much more lady dancing going on, so I think the eggs are coming soon.

So who wants to reserve some Blue Swedish ducklings?

Lafayette. Sales girl said it was system wide. They used to sell Ideal I think. They are also getting in lavender Orpington in 2 weeks... Not on my list but they could be.
