Colorado

I have a love hate relationship with daylight savings, but today I got home a bit early and had a bit of extra light and warm weather so I spent it outside puttering around the yard. I cleaned up a mountain of dog poop that's melted out of the snow drift. The duck run finally got its fenced roof to keep the hawks at bay. My husband was not so secretly hoping I wouldn't fence the roof gap and that a hawk would get in and not be able to figure out how to get out and we'd somehow have a pet hawk instead of ducks. And my mouser caught his first vole since fall and brought it back for me and dropped it by the front door. So overall a good afternoon.

What's up fellow Coloradans? I'm a new chicken owner in city limits of Fountain and so far loving the experience. I have 3 Rhode Islands and 2 Buckeye chicks around 3 weeks old. I am currently almost finished with the coop and can't wait to put the girls (hopefully all girls), in the coop in the next couple weeks. Anyway, hope you all are enjoying the weather and thanks for having me.

Welcome! It's certainly been more like spring than winter lately. The ducks have been thrilled that their pool isn't a skating rink. I got home from work yesterday and instead of chipping ice off the top for them the pool was half empty and the run was half flooded as they'd been playing and swimming and sloshing all the water out. Personally I've never regretted my move to Colorado, though my family is far away, it's a pretty great place to live!

Welcome @matt1978 Glad to have you on the Colorado thread. You and I are not so far apart. :)

I am enjoying the weather very much but I keep getting the feeling I'm way behind on spring chores and starting the garden. I have to keep reminding myself that it's only March. I will have a lot of planting to do come May though. I just put in an order for seedling trees from the Forest Department. Most are meant to be for windbreaks. I ordered 130 trees/bushes/plants. I'll be digging a lot of holes. :th

Hello Colorado Chicken Peeps! I'm in Longmont and we've recently moved to a house with a backyard, so YAY I can have hennies again! It's been years since we've had a place to do it. I have Coronation Sussex eggies set in incubator #1 on 3.10.18, and tomorrow I am setting Jubilee Orpingtons in incubator #2 (as soon as it gets here...LOL can't just have one!). Anyone else in my area? Any other CS or JO lovers out there?

Hello my fellow Coloradans! I was wondering if you all knew of a place I can go other than Craigslist or an expensive place like Murdochs to find a coop? I've got six chickens and four of them are three weeks and getting bigger everyday. I need to have the coop ready for when it's time to put them out. I've been looking around and haven't had any luck. I don't want to have to build my own coop as I'm not builder savvy and my husband doesn't want to go that route lol. Any and all help is accepted lol and thank you!!

depending on where you are some people get a shed and convert to a coop... that was my first coop that I used for 6+ years. or some of the "shed" places sell specific coops.... they will be much better put together than the prefab ones at either murdochs or tractor supply.
