Sounds like there is a critter swap at the Tractor Supply 33 NW Frontage Rd Fort Collins, this Sunday (7/1/18) from 10am-1pm.

I've never been to such a thing, but I've got two cockerels I need to relieve myself of, and would like to bring back some pullets. Should I just show up with cash and a dog kennel for transportation? What are the chances of getting rid of my cockerels? One of them bites, and I plan on full disclosure of his aggression. Any tips?

Yes you just show up ready to sell or buy.

It should be decent weather too!

Do you have a set up to quarantine any you buy?

My advice is to check over any you want very well for mites/lice and general condition.

I have not made it to a swap yet either, they are always far away. I would love to hear your take on the whole experience afterwards.

Double check the rules and time of the swap. I believe some of them shut down early if it's over a certain temperature and I know this weekend is supposed to be HOT everywhere.

Where did you find out about the swap?

Curious cause I am thinking about downsizing ....... Maybe.

Yeah or if they sell out of something. Get there early and have a second carrier just in case.

What sort of pullets are you looking for? I am heading north Thursday and 8 have a few will-be-4-weekers I am looking to place.

I'm not sure what to look for as far as mites or anything. I think that unless it looks like they just pulled a hen out of the garbage disposal I'm not likely to notice anything. I'm a little concerned about that.

I don't have a quarantine set-up, but I can put something together pretty easily.

I found out about this through the lady I got my chickens from (Camp Awesome Colorado) when I called to inquire if she would trade me pullets for the cockerels. She said she doesn't have any pullets, but would buy back the cockerels for like $5 a piece. She suggested the swap and said I could probably get more for the little roosters there. It hadn't even occurred to me that I'd be able to sell a bird at all.

She told me that my birds from here were Rhode Island Reds, so I assume they are a production red and will advertise them as such. What is a realistic expectation for how much I might be able to sell for, $8? $231,000? I just don't know.

Same question for pullets. I just want some layers, so nothing fancy or show quality. Should I expect to pay more than $15-$20 for a pullet? I realize that I'm going to find out when I get up there and probably don't need to ask, but everyone seems friendly and ready to shell out advice on here.

I'll probably be on the look out for a barred rock, buff orpington, or maybe another easter egger. Currently I've got one production red, one easter egger, and one golden laced wyandotte. Oh yeah, and two pekin ducks.

Selling males is always a crap shoot.

I did a search on craigs and did not find the swap listed. I did notice just a couple roosters available so yours might sell easily.

If you don't find any hens check out Northern Colorado Feeders Supply. Sometimes they have older chicks. I don't think they would have 15 week olds. Ya never know though.

Mites and lice would be found on the skin around the vent area. Tiny nasty bugs is what you would be looking for.

There is a place in Wellington that posts on craigs with started pullets.

I will see if they have an ad and link it.
