x2 I have tried to find information on that show and can find nothing. I will go searching online again later tonight when I have more time. You would think they would be putting out some sort of premium book/rules or some sort of information about entering somewhere. We must just be missing it.

It's a great show. Had soo much fun with Coloradochick last year. They are a pretty small club and don't have anyone who can maintain a website for them (thus very hard to find info on the internet for them). The Raffle/Auction is awesome. Would love to see you all there to help support our local breeders.

Just wanted to poke my head in and say hello. My name is Deanna, and the hubby and I are brand new to chickens, getting our first flock of 12 (11 now) in June. Loving it lots so far and learning lots too!! This site has been a tremendous help.

We are in Penrose, a little tiny town about 30 miles south of Colorado Springs, known mostly for our apples. Of course we are only about 5 miles north of Florence, so we can also be known for our prisons. ha ha. Hmmm....apples and prisons, now there's a combo for ya!! We have 10 acres and have cows, a llama, a donkey, and now chickens.

Chickens of course being my favorite!! I'm trying not to get sucked into chicken math but it is becoming increasingly difficult to refrain...

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. Hope to be visiting with my fellow Coloradoans soon!!

I haven't been down thru Penrose in years, but I remember it is very nice. What kind of chickens did you get? (We love pics here!)

Thanks for the welcome!! I have Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks. I bought them as pullets from a gentleman in Pueblo West who knows chickens so I decided to take his advice and stick to breeds he called "hardy egg layers." So far, I am beyond pleased with my girls!!

I had no idea there were so many breeds to choose from. I mean my kids grew up doing 4H but we worked with horses, sheep, and pigs. I always toured the poultry barns and thought chickens were cool but was never really interested because I thought (probably like most of the planet) they were dirty.

Glad I found out different! Anyway, looking forward to getting into some different breeds and perhaps trying to hatch some chicks someday.

Where in Colorado are you located? I will post some pics soon...I have a hard time getting my girls to stand still long enough to get some that aren't blurry!! ha ha

I love Penrose apples. Nummmmm!!

There are also some really cool antique shops down closer to Florence. Since I am in the Security/Widefield area, going down to your area is a great day trip. Do you ever do the "you pick" apples? I have gone to the Happy Apple farm before but was wondering if there were any other places worth checking out.

...Oh...and WELCOME

Thanks for the welcome!! Actually downtown Florence is mostly all antique shops now...its really quaint and cute. I don't have a lot of antiques but it's really cool to walk through all the shops. There is a really nice bakery downtown too..former Broadmoor pastry chef runs it. Its awesomely goooood!!! My friend Hope and her husband own Happy Apple and it's always nice - I think they have a little deli there now. There is also 3rd Street Apples (they have their own bees and sell fresh honey too) and a place just a few blocks from Happy Apple (can't remember the name) on K street that are "you pick." There are probably more, but those are the ones I can think of off-hand and they are all 3 within about a mile of each other, which makes it nice. Actually my neighbors have apple trees and my daughter's friend's parents own Mollelo Orchards (no longer in business) and they still have tons of trees. So I guess I'm all set as far as apples go...lucky me!!

How long of a drive is it to Florence? I haven't been there in over 20 years. Isn't that where the petrified trees are or am I thinking of Florrisant (sp)? Sounds like it might be a fun little trip for DH and I while the kids are at school if the drive wasn't too bad.

And Shy what a cool couple of pics! I love Fall. It's the dead trees and cold snows I don't like.
