exactly! I don't have a problem with the hawks or the coyotes, I figure both are helping keep the plague rats at bay, plus whatever else might be out there

Hey guys - instead of re-reading this entire thread I'm just going to ask everybody if there is anyone somewhat near the Denver area that will have pure Barred Rock chicks available this spring? I've got a guy looking for just five straight run chicks. He wants to get from a private person .. not a hatchery.

Eastern plains or Front Range residents--Thought I'd check if anyone is interested in half or quarter of a beef steer. My father has a Hereford steer going to the Simla locker Jan 4--a half is still open to purchase. Steer is grass fed, about a year old. Purchase cost of the steer is $1.04/lb live weight, our educated guess is he's around 800 lbs. (Won't know his actual weight till Jan 4.) Processing is .62/lb for hamburgers/steaks.
Email me if you're interested and I can provide more info. I'd ask for $50 deposit to hold your portion of meat and that would then be applied to the purchase cost.

And since livestock is the subject--I'm looking forward to showing my first chicken at the Natl Western Stock Show.

Cookie (on the right) is going its her first show. I really wondered if I was out for torture because the poultry show is on Martin Luther King Day (one of the busiest days of entire NWSS due to holiday) and has been moved into the cattle barn area on the ground floor of the Hall of Education (colder than usual?). Hmmmmmm used to be in the nice area where miniature ponies, hogs, sheep, goats all show.....the gal at the NWSS office said there were chicken owners washing their birds at the bathroom sinks in the building----that paints quite a picture!

Hello Alpinefarm! How are you doing?? I've wondered how much snow you've been getting.

BTW--the beef is available to anyone willing to drive to Simla, CO not just east side residents. (really pretty drive east of Colorado Springs)

Well, the beef sounds excellent....but we don't eat too much meat between the 2 of us and can't run a freezer up here yet off-grid. We've tried in the past to keep meat frozen outside but inevitably we have a January thaw...

Beginning to think we have our feet beneath us again, so I have time for sitting online. Howdy, my fellow Coloradans! How are you liking our weather? How are your birds liking it. Mine seem to like it fine but havent laid in a VERY VERY long time. Something got our ducks in early November. The kids were broken hearted. (Me too for that matter) And dd's last quail passed too. We never did have the inkling to put her outside, she was just so friendly! So we will be in the market for a few ducks and a few quail again really soon. Barring anything unforseen! If you happen to find any, let me know!!
