MyKid I PM'd you about Marans but then also noticed your edit about the chicks. We got ours from Hodges so you might try them. I know I had found them on another site but can't remember which one right at the moment. If I find it I will holler.

Coopa Cabana,
He is! On their website it says nothing of them raising chicks for sale. I sent an email and also called down there on Wednesday and they are one and the same. However the man that answered the phone didn't really know anything about the chicks, he said Dr. Whiting handles all that. A little while later, Dr. Whiting answered my email saying that he will be taking between 150-200 of the meat birds to the Clifton Murdoch's on Mar 30, late morning. He said that these Cornish X are breed to be an intermediate grower with many of the typical health problems gone. We'll see.

Anyone else raise a heritage meat bird around here with good results?

Just taking a quick break - had to come in and thank whoever's responsible for making today such a glorious 1st Day of Spring!! It feels so good to get out in the yard and play in the garden again!
Seems like I've been waiting all Winter for today!!

I've been really busy and didn't even realize today was March 21 ... the first day of Spring. ARGH!

-mother's in the hospital
-goat kidding and we have no real clue what we humans are doing
-48 chicks, in 3 age stages
-3 more chicks just hatched this weekend
-gathering eggs for big hatch to sell
-no good sleep for weeks
-months behind in house chores and business work

I don't really need to go on, do I? I'm exhausted and barely functional. But life goes on and everything needs to get done.

But ... thanks for the reminder that Spring has Sprung! Now ... will someone please turn off the wind machine?
