I have 16 posts ready to set in cement right now. 20 are already set. I work Mon-Fri 6AM to 2PM. That gives me some time in the afternoons and Saturday to work on various projects. Every other Monday is Chemo day for Beth. My oldest son is in the AF in Montana. No help there. My youngest son (23) lives at home, works full time all day and weekends. No help there. My oldest daughter (19) works all day and is "Too Tired" when she gets home.

(Insert appropriate whine here.....) She is a nanny. My youngest daughter (15) is a pretty good help, but is almost always at school or some other activity, so not much help there. My sweet wife Beth can't do a whole lot due to her medical issues, but she brings out a chair and keeps me company.......

I figure that if I get all the posts set, and the 2x4 fence framework done by winter, I can get the hen house and a couple of brood/breeder pens done before may 2012 when the fertile eggs arrive. The rest can be done throughout the summer and fall. Total project should be done by fall 2012. That's the plan anyway......

I was raised around chickens, barred rocks, arucaunas, and polish. We had some NASTY coops we built from old houses, shipping crates, etc. We reused EVERYTHING! Dad was raised during the depression..... Anyway, I decided that if we were ever to have chickens again, we would do it right, or at least do the best we could to have healthy, happy chickens. Most of what we will produce will go into the freezer, and the rest for eggs and breeding. We plan on establishing our own line of Dominiques, and to be NPIP certified as well.

I'mACountryGirl :

We are distributing several hundred nucs of bees at my house on Saturday...that should be fun in the snow!! Also supposed to be putting up fence and finishing the chicken coops (chicken palaces, as my husband calls them!). I'll post pictures later when they're finished.

Bees? Sooo jealous!! It took me years to convince DH that four chickens wasn't going to cause the end of the world. Still working on bees. <sigh>

I'm probably the last to know, but I saw a sign today about a Springs area coop tour this Sat and Sunday. Depending on the weather, it could be fun. But I suppose if the weather was really nice I'd be at Pueblo for the show.

Well the 2 orpington hens are still available and free. If they don't find a home this weekend I will just have them processed with my cornish that are due. If anyone wants them they will be available this weekend for free.

So, I woke up this morning with some traces of snow on the ground and the usual wind. Was that our Saturday snow or is more supposed to be coming. The pastures are pathetic. We usually have to keep the horses in the corral 15 hours a day so they don't founder by this time of year. Give me some water.
