Colorado

Hello ALL !!

I just located this Colorado thread.
I just moved to the Pueblo/Avondale area last year. Took time to get settled and start collecting the items needed to get my chickens and rabbits going. Actually it has been soooo hot that not much building has been getting done. But the property I bought has alot of trash and debri about, so I have been getting things in order with the tractor. I have 36+ acres and have some good plans. I finished my coop design yesterday and have most of my free ranging runs drawn up. My anti-cyote fence design is completed and ready for construction. My plans are to complete the fencing, coop and setup by spring of 2012 and have chicks free ranging by this time next year. (1 guy can only do so much while still working!)

I understand that!

We are working on the 2012 plan as well. we will end up with a medium sized operation, wintering up to 20 hens, breeding, butchering some for meat, etc. Currently I have 4 small coops framed up, and working on one of the two larger coops framing. Our fence will be finished in the spring. When that is done, I will build the 10 X 12 hen house the storage shed, and the other stuff that goes along with it. THEN we will get the chickens.

Yes! I agree, I want to have everything ready before the chickens arrive. I have given a list of my choices to the wife, after she decides her hens, then we should be on our way!

We are getting Dominiques.

You know, as the crow flies, we aren't that far from each other. We are 3 miles west of PPIR, in the Midway area.

I am directly south of the Depo. In fact, I work at the Depo.
And we plan on getting a mix to start. Top of the list: Rhode Island Reds, Leghorns, Marans, Andalusians and some Welsummers if I can locate em'. LOL

Cool!
We are getting a mix of Dominque hatching eggs from two different sources, and day olds from two different hatcheries, all four sources have excellent quality Dominique stock, and from them we hope to establish a good flock. By this time next year we should have the birds separated into keepers and freezer stock, and probably process in October-November-ish.
Our "chicken compound" will be just larger than 4000 square feet when completed.
