Colorado

Hello -- Intro-ing myself and happy to have found the Colorado group

I had posted earlier in the Predator forum about having lost 4 of our 7 hens this past week. We had 2 BOs, 1 RIR, and a Gold Laced Wyandotte taken from our coop after dark (my daughter had closed the hens up, and I double checked to see they were safe before we headed out to dinner.) We came back two hours later to find coop door, run door and our seldom-used back gate (opening to the alley) all wide open. Our two little Bantams and our Barred Rock were left, but our four big girls are gone. No feathers, no blood. We are very sad.

New padlocks have been installed, along with motion sensor lights. Looking at adding a sensor to the back gate that will tell us if someone comes through it.

My daughters hope to start showing chickens in 4H this year. We are new to chickens, but got ours as chicks last spring and now can't imagine not having them! I blog about them (mostly about the chickens, a few other topics here and there) at http://coopandcottage.blogspot.com/ Having a hard time blogging much right now -- still really missing our girls.

Anyhow, glad to have found you all. We're on the Front Range.

Awww So sorry to hear about your chickens. But

Just wish it was for happier reasons you joined. Maybe installing a game cam would be a good idea also. They are pretty inexpensive now a days.

You should just treat yourself to extra sleep! Forget the clock and go to bed.

I did and then woke up an hour 1/2 earlier then needed.....I can't win

Did anyone actually get any snow? What a let down.

My roo, the Earl of Parker or just Earl for short, started crowing this morning for the first time. I'm shocked because, you see, Earl isn't exactly a rooster's roo. He gets mounted by the top hen all the time and is rather small. But he finally crowed! With how dominant my hen is I doubt he will ever be a big manly rooster but it doesn't matter, he's a fun part of the flock! He's very good at making nests for the ladies, though.
