Colorado

You guys have me concerned... I took a week off and left town withi the wife to get away and relax and I left the chooks in the care of my mum in law. She doesn't know anything beyond what I told her but there is nothing she could do that I would have if I were home during these super cold temps. Although we were home after some serious cold and they did fine.

I only have three birds, two hens and one roo.... I'm concerned for them of course but my question is, if they do suffer frost bite on their combs, do the combs grow back or are they forever trimmed?

I return tomorrow.... Hoping to find happy chooks! She hasn't mentioned anything bad but again she doesn't know what to look for...and again, nothing could be done differently than what she's already done. No chooks in the house and the coop is a very well built house....and with few birds I'm guessing the moisture isn't a problem.

Guess I'll find out tomorrow! Denver bound tomorrow afternoon...so good to go home and see the chooks, the pup and my little girl!

Good to know. I got home a bit too late to really examine my birds but my MIL said they almost never left the coop-- not a surprise there. I think my roo has a darkened tip to his comb but of what I could see, most of his comb was fine-- I'll get a better look tomorrow in the sun light. Everyone looked ok, though-- the hens' combs looked as usual.

What in the heck is with this icy fog that showed up lastnight and rolled in again about 4:30 this evening!!!!!

That's how it makes me feel. And taking my dd to a bday sleepover tonight we could barely see 20 feet in front of us

Allow me to geek out on you for a moment but...

There was a slight upslope last night. I flew into Denver Intl and you could see the fog on the plains moving in. It never reached our property in Parker. Also, with all this snow on the ground and the intense temps finally abating, there is a lot of spare water vapor in the air. As the temps fall and the dew point rises, tad a! Fog. This State can be seriously weird sometimes, huh?

I've got bugs!!!!! (or beetles, whatever). The beetle/mealworm cycle of life continues! I still have worms being..wormy...but I also have pupae and now beetles, too! Woo!!!!! And thankfully they're eating all of our scraps that the chooks don't eat. I feel so green. My carbon footprint lost the piggy toe, I swear.

Anyway... I shared the news with my wife, but she wrinkled her nose and her belief that I'm insane only solidified even more. So I wanted to tell someone who would actually get excited with me!

BEETLES PEOPLE!!!!!! WOO!!!!!

I don't usually use the emoticons but:lau:weee:weee:weee:weee:clap:ya YOU GOT baby WORMS. I'm sure that theere is a cure for that but who cares!!

The weather is one reason that I love CO so much. Have lived in CO for 42 yrs. When I first got here I could not believe that one part of the country could be so different from other parts. And the weather now is entirely different from the weather 42 yrs ago. The old saying the" if you don't like the weather now just wait 19 min . it is liable to change" is completely true.

Those emoticons never work for me. Trust me they were there!!!
