Colorado

Hey, sorry went awol yesterday. Chickens are laying like crazy and now the sebbies too so am overflowing with eggs. First Sebbies is due to hatch today or tomorrow. Shell is pipped and I can't wait to see what color comes out. Not sure how to post pics when I am in a reply. Do I need to start a new thread?

Hello fellow Colorado Eggers. I am new to this site but not new to chickens. Well... I'm new to this whole urban chicken thing. We raised chickens back home in Illinois all my life. Now we're just doing it on a smaller scale. Does anyone have any young olive eggers that they would like to sell? I would like to add a little color to my carton. Thanks.

WoW!
We just moved out here from Waterloo, Illinois a little over a year ago!!!

Welcome!!

Joe

Hi Scott! Welcome to our Colorado thread and to
welcome-byc.gif

There is a gal on Craigslist that advertises Olive Eggers. I think her name is Gina but if you look in Denver and search chicks, she should come up.

Oh your Sebbies are absolutely GORGEOUS!!!! I especially love the darker ones

Hi Everyone- I need some help figuring out if chickens are allowed in the towns of Bennett, Strasburg, or Byers. They are smaller towns and I'm having trouble finding the info. online. We are looking for a home on acreage in that area but are having a hard time finding anything so we are now considering finding something in town with a smaller lot. I appreciate your help.

I really can't help you much except to point you in a few directions. I googled poultry in the above locations and came up with a couple of places in Bennet and Byers..You might try contacting them to see what they know. they are:

Eastern Plains Natural Food Co-op in Bennet - http://www.easternplains.com/ and
Elbert Family Farms in Byers - http://www.ebertfarms.com/ and '09

I also searched for those towns here on BYC and only came up with one post from a user named Summer Rose Farm in Strasburg posted in '09. You might try seeing if they are still active and PM'ing them.

Also found this site that might be a useful resource: www.localsustainability.net/directory/meat/poultry/

You might try looking up the local government sites for those towns and emailing the county zoning (?) department, or the extension agent.

Wish I could be more help, but wanted you to at least have a reply to your post.

We got our last baby today, Black Astralorp, here 2 days old. Right away, Anne B. came after her. I think chickens are very smart however. I got Anne B and put her in the little transport box for a few minutes, then took her out and talked to her, that she had better leave that little chick alone, she was going to be part of the family then put her back in the box for a few and then put her back in the brooder. She looked at me and walked by the chick and didn't pester her at all. I watched a bit more and they were all settling down nicely. The others investigate with their beaks but don't attack. Anne B has accepted her and the last I saw them, they were all together, eating. Anne B. and Cat of A are 14 days old now, the middle three 7 days old and now we have Catherine Parr. Anne B. too seems to have a fascination with poop. She will grab a big dried piece and run with it while all the other chickens think she has something really cool and chase her. I have tried picking up after them but I can't keep it spotless. As it is, I change the paper twice a day. Also concerned with flying now. The biggest, Cat of A tried to fly over the top of the brooder this morning. She didn't make it but I am sure it wont be long. Its amazing the difference in size in only two weeks. The little one is so cute. I wish they could stay that size a little bit. Thankfully the grandkids will be here in two days so they will see the baby before she gets too big.

Waterloo huh? If you drew an east west line through Waterloo I grew up directly east of you on the Illinois/Indiana border. Small town called Grayville right off of I64. I hope you're enjoying Colorado. I've been here for about 6 years now.
Well.......We are living in rural Avondale.....so we are having to deal with wind!! I don't know if we will ever get use to it LOL. But yes, we are enjoying Colorado. I should have all my chickens in order within year's end. then I will get the rabbits set up. We have some plans...just takes time!!
I have 36 /4 week-old chicks in one brooder....8 new hatches (1 week old) in another brooder...and we will get 15 more on April 30th!!
I have the new coops set up and I am getting the field ready to plant some various grasses for the ladies to forage in!
Living the Dream!!! LOL
