Waterloo huh? If you drew an east west line through Waterloo I grew up directly east of you on the Illinois/Indiana border. Small town called Grayville right off of I64. I hope you're enjoying Colorado. I've been here for about 6 years now.

Well.......We are living in rural Avondale.....so we are having to deal with wind!! I don't know if we will ever get use to it LOL. But yes, we are enjoying Colorado. I should have all my chickens in order within year's end. Then I will get the rabbits set up. We have some plans...just takes time!!
I have 36 /4 week-old chicks in one brooder....8 new hatches (1 week old) in another brooder...and we will get 15 more on April 30th!!
I have the new coops set up and I am getting the field ready to plant some various grasses for the ladies to forage in!
Living the Dream!!! LOL

Does Anyone Have Call Ducks or Eggs In Colorado?

Hi Everyone- I need some help figuring out if chickens are allowed in the towns of Bennett, Strasburg, or Byers. They are smaller towns and I'm having trouble finding the info. online. We are looking for a home on acreage in that area but are having a hard time finding anything so we are now considering finding something in town with a smaller lot. I appreciate your help.

We have friends in both Bennett and Strasburg, I know the one set has chickens - but they live outside of Strasburg...outside of town that is. I can see what they know, if you don't find help with he links.

For what it's worth, the friends in Strasburg are looking to rent their home, it sits on an acre or two, I believe, and they have had a wonderful garden spot, chickens, dogs and bees...maybe more I can't remember right now. I know it's not the same as owning your own home, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Got a picture up at least. Here is part of my sebbies. I have a total of 12 --4 white,5 gray, 1 blue, 1 buff, and one saddleback. I like variety.

Your Sebastopols are beautiful!! Such a nice variety you have, thank you for showing them to us.
Do you hatch out most of all those eggs and sell them as goslings?

I hatch out most but also sell eggs for $15 each and include a few iffy ones for free (iffy ones could be good or possibly frozen but I don't charge for those)since I can't possible hatch them all. If they start to gather up then I sell on ebay but hate to since shipped eggs rarely hatch at that good of a rate. This breed is my all time favorite for looks and temperament.

Oh!! I can't stand it!! I'll take some frozen eggs!!! Maybe I should hatch some and give the goslings back to you to sell.
I just want to try it even though I can't keep them. I would love to have that experience.

I am willing to give eggs to someone to hatch and split the difference on the ones that actually hatch out. No charge just a 50 50 split on the hatched out ones. I hate to see them go to waste sitting here. I am putting in as many as I can but still they are laying like crazy.

I use a brinsea and also a styrofoam tabletop with forced air. first time using the brinsea and i still hand turn so they don't get overturned. I have had good results and hate to mess with what works

That was my thought too, about hating to see the eggs go to waste if there is incubator space available. I would be happy to take any deal that makes sense to you with the eggs but I don't want to start with the best ones because right now I am having temperature fights with all my incubators. I just got a Brinsea Spot Check thermometer in the mail yesterday so I could have a double check on all these different thermometers I keep trying from the hardware store. Boy were my temps off! I have five Hovabators, three filled with duck eggs right now. I'm suprised any of the eggs are still alive after finding out how hot I was cooking them at, I hardly slept last night trying to get them adjusted and they're still not right yet. I also have a cabinet hatcher that worked well last year and just bought a big lab incubator I'll have to mess with a bunch before I try out.
Anyway this temperature crisis can't go on forever, I WILL get this resolved! But for now I wouldn't want to commit to the really good eggs, just if you have iffy ones.
