Colorado

Hi fellow Coloradans! Coloradoans? Heh. I'm a former Centennial resident, recently moved to Parker out in Elbert County (very close to Elizabeth). I just posted in the new member thread; basically I'm very new and will be starting to raise my first chickens in a few weeks. Am excited to read through the thread and see where everyone is located. :D

Welcome!!!

I'm outside of South east Pueblo, rural Avondale!!!

Welcome all the new folks. We live south of Fountain, between I-25 and Ft Carson.

Eggs in the incubator and will be candling on Saturday or Sunday. Looking for hatching around the 5th of May.

Big fencing project is progressing. Hopfully this afternoon we will be dried out enough to get some more done!

I live in Parker too ... I live off hilltop and singing hills in hidden village north of the Pinery. Welcome! It sounds like love pretty close to me. What breed will you keep?

Hey everyone, I am looking to buy a couple of fertilized eggs for my girl who really wants to be a mommy. I have 2 RIR and 2 BR's i would prefer one of those breeds but am willing to consider others. I would really like to get some from one of you here in CO. the faster I can get them the better, as I am afriad that if I order them online they will take to long to get here and she will stop being broody. If anyone of you wonderful people can help me out I would be very happy.

Thanks

Thanks! Yes, we are close...it's beautiful over where you are! I'm just off Singing Hills and Delbert. I'm interested in Ameraucana, Orpington, maybe Wyandotte and Rhode Island Red. I'd just like to start out with about 3-4 hens right now. Hoping to find a good place where I can get some that are past the pullet stage and ready to be out in a coop.

Got all the fence rails up, and this afternoon I will be framing up one of the gates and getting hinges on! PROGRESS!

Candling tomorrow evening.........

Afternoon update:
got the main large gate done and slats up on it and another section.

I'm introducing my new wyandottes to the flock this weekend. They're already in the run but inside their own cage for protection. I kept them there overnight and covered them up to keep them a bit warmer. Anyway, I'd like to get them into the flock completely this weekend so I'm considering leaving them in their little cage again today, tonight and tomorrow and then Sunday night putting them into the roost area after dark.

Does this sound like an ok plan? I'd hate to have my buff orpingtons go crazy on them. So far the older hens haven't done much. Gwen is the dominant chicken and she's pecked and has done that I'm bigger than you routine with one of the pullets but otherwise they seem indifferent.

Thoughts?
