Colorado

Wow, Thanks!
In addition to the Dominiques from the hatchery and eggs in the incubastor, we are getting some easter eggers that will live with us, but will actually be for some friends.

Wyandottes are nice.

I was told the California is suppose to be one of the nicest but the person might have been trying to get rid of them???

Ok well my SLWs are in the main run and spent last night in the coop with my three orpingtons! No loss of life or limb! Now, for night two...I work at night and I doubt very much that my peeps will go into the coop on their own. Their brooder is still in the run. Should I remove this familiar thing? In hopes that they follow the other chickens into the coop or is removing their brooder and the one thing they know and can get into a bad move?

Anyone in the Springs have any eggs that they want hatched? I have a broody who seems to be VERY committed to hatching. She has been sitting on a dry turd for about a week now...........*SIGH*. I have no eggs, nor do I really have any desire to add more chickens to my already sizable collection. I just figured if anyone wanted some eggs hatched I could get my broody to get it out of her system. I wouldn't mind having my son witness the chicken cycle of life. So if you want some chicks but don't want to hassle with the incubator just let me know.

Anyone in Highlands Ranch know what hoops I will have to go through to get the coop approved by the HOA? Also is there anything I am not considering that might be an issue with the HOA?

where do you guys get your chicks from? I'm planning on getting a few more next yr and i've been debating about buying from a store like jax/bomgaars/murdocks or ordering from a hatchery.
I don't have the need to hatch my own eggs, unless one of my young chickens (who will only be about a yr old next spring) would want to go broody at the perfect time.

I got my 25 from McMurrary, 12 from mypetchicken.com and I have 15 more coming next week from mypetchicken.com.

My pet chicken is good for a few..( if you just want 3-15 chicks) but they are more expensive! Most hatcheries have a min. order of 25. But they are cheaper in the long run. I have only good to say about both places.

We bought our 25 birds from M Mc. I also have 5 guineas on order from Loveland Jax. In a hurry to get the coop and run done so the first 25 can move out and the guineas move in to the brooder. Miller moth time has coincided well with teaching the chicks that bugs are yummy. We catch a bunch then turn them loose in the brooder. Hilarious! Much better than any TV.
